Stevie Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Notice a lot of sellers currently requesting payment via 'paypal gift' If the seller is unknown to me I think I would politely offer to pay the fees... or am I just too cautious?

Quinvy Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 You have to be very careful. Sometimes it won't let you send it from your bank account, and other times it will no problem. I have no idea why this should be. Bloody frustrating when it won't have it.
Ian Parker Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I only use the Gift option if i know them Debbie x

Denbo Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Phil .....it only let's me when i have paypal funds ,not from bank account However i think it's worth noting .... if your planning on sending someone a big chunk of money for a record ..just remember ,if you send payment as a gift ,your not covered by paypal if it goes tits up Hi Nev, Now that's worth knowing. Thanks!!! I pay by 'gift' on occasions and always get charged. Probably because all payments come direct from my credit card? Not sure if I still get charged a fee if I have funds in my PayPal account? Can anybody else confirm this? Denbo.
Quinvy Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Mmmmmmm, how spooky is that? I just got a warning email from paypal saying that my account would be frozen if I continued to receive gift payments. BARSTARDS!
Soulgirl85 Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 yeah you can only send payment via gift for a low fee if you have money in your paypal ! i think it is possible to send cash as a gift if its coming out of your bank but there is an extra fee , also if sending as a gift its cheaper in different countries for some reason! when i send a gift from here in spain , even on 300 pounds it would cost me something like 88 cents , but it costs a friend of mine in the uk around 6 or 7 pounds to send the same ammount! also i have claimed back on a gift payment before when a 45 didnt arrive and the seller refused to respond , so i think its still as safe as paying via the normal route! also paypal as a gift isnt an option in germany im told ...... sold a few things to german guys and when ive asked fo it to be sent as a gift they always say they cant , so it must differ depending on where you are , although that is highly strange
Mark Bicknell Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I only use the Gift option if i know them Debbie x Don't have a problem with that as it's fair comment, however I refuse to give Pay Pal any of my money unless I really have to so it's either as a gift of the buyer covers the fees simple. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
Mike Lofthouse Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Personally I think it is a bit mean when sellers do it - they having it all ways, exposure on forums, no ebay fees, good price for the record, quick payment direct into their account. I have ended up paying top dollar on postage and packing to find it a re-used bit of cardboard often not sent recorded or registered - as paid for - and even second class !! Just my humble opinion of course !

Keithw Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 usually only ask for record payment as a gift--if person has knocked me down on price already or asked for free spl delivery as well as knocking price down or if i need to sell at cost or less ITS NOT ALL LAUGHS BEING A RECORD DEALER
