Soulfinger
Is it just me,or does anybody else find him a self serving hypocrite ? Dunno about self serving but I guess some might say he's hypocritical having done stuff like Angel Dust and The Bottle before descending into the drug induced oblivion that hit him in the 90's. I wouldn't want to be so judgemental. I don't know how complicated his life was or what pressures he was under. Irrespective, he's one of my favourite artists, he was always great live and I'm really looking forward to seeing him at Manchester Opera House on 24th April. jocko
Strange question mate, want to expand, he made mistakes like anyone, that old glass houses parable and all that, but don't think you can call him self serving in any way, love to know more about this one??/ Link to comment Social source share
Guest
Can't wait for this..... Is anybody really trying to say they look to Soul/Rock/Pop Singers for moral guidance? I would have thought that 50 years of sordid Rock'n'Roll history indicates that there are far more sinners than saints in this church! Won't be many Soul Artists left if we start quoting the Ten Commandments for christs sake! Edited March 31, 2010 by chorleysoul Link to comment Social source share

Paul-s
Top artist, who has struggled in life and come through...still has relevent things to say. One of the few artists who does nowadays....made mistakes YES, thats why i want to hear him.. Link to comment Social source share
Tomangoes
'The Bottle' certainly changed the face of Northern Soul, and lots would agree with you GSH made history, for various reasons. You should read Marvin Gaye's 'Troubled Man' to understand how the pressure of being an artist can create lunatic tendancies especially when complimented with chemicals. Just enjoy the music..... Funky Si
To quote the great man himself (from his new album) "I'm saying, if you gotta pay for the things that you do wrong, I got a big bill coming!" "If I hadn't been as eccentric, as obnoxious, as arrogant, as aggressive, as introspective, as selfish, I wouldn't be me, I wouldn't be who I am" How anyone can honestly claim that a man who says those things about himself on a record is a hypocrite?
