Guest mvb031259 Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 To: BBC We are about to have a vital and much loved weekly experience removed from our lives by a Corporation that doesn't care. In it's quest for savings and budgets that fit its accountants' view of public service broadcasting, the BBC is about to terminate the best Soul Music show on Radio, the Internet or anywhere else for that matter. Mary Fox's weekly show will have its last airing on April 2nd despite being one of the most successful local (and in truth GLOBAL) radio shows ever heard on iPlayer. A quick view of the message board dedicated to the site gives an insight into the huge span of listeners that the show takes in, with messages of support from all over the world. The termination of this show will be a cultural loss of huge proportions and will leave a hole in the soul of thousands of listeners. Please sign our petition to reinstate the Mary Fox show and show Mary and the BBC how much it means to so many. Reg Scott Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 First it was Dave Evison who broadcast in our area, then, via Radio Stoke, Mary has picked up the mantle and done a fantastic job. Petition signed.. SAVE OUR SOUL! Regards Greg.

Theres more out than in, Jim I know this isn't the place for controversy, but isn't Mary Fox the one that plays mainstream pap in amongst the good stuff? Guest mvb031259 Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 I know this isn't the place for controversy, but isn't Mary Fox the one that plays mainstream pap in amongst the good stuff? I listened to her a few times but there's only so much St. Ettien and Duffy that a man can take... Well the truth of the matter is we don't all like the same stuff...... What is basically being asked is that any one who does like the M.F show if they feel appropriate to sign the petition...... I don't personally like everything she plays as my bag is mainly 6T's soul e.g Wheel stuff etc, but i listen most weeks and mostly enjoy it...... But i personally think the show is worth keeping considering it opens up Soul music to people who don't attend venues for whatever reasons, It is a good tool for promoters to use to hopefully boost attendances at thier events, it keeps people in toutch re. important issues on the scene e.g when colleagues want to raise moneys for charities etc etc..... All that is being asked if you want to keep the show sign it, we have no desire to get involved in any disscusion re. the type of music she plays etc, if you don't like the show don't sign simple as....

Come on The Beeb get your F**king Act together as we pay your wages. nail on the head mate, a bloody disgrace, and they expect us to put up listening to so much unadulterated shit 24/7. the problem with music today and for the last 21/2 decades, its totally lost any semblence of normality, generations of youths brainwashed by junk churned out by brainless, drug riddled tosspots who've got no roots. its about time someone got a grip on reality. for cryin out loud, we lost richard's show last year....do we not have a right to hear our music on the airwaves then?. discrimination by the establishment again! rob.h
phatspinner Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 "The show ran for over five years, and was the most popular show on the BBC Local iPlayer." - taken from Mary's page. So it can't be said that it wasn't popular. Don't know if Mary's continuing absence has been a factor maybe she wasn't around to defend her corner. The 3 shows I regularly listen to are this one, Steve White on Radio Sheffield and Craig Charles on Radio 6. With Craig and Mary getting the big E, I wonder whether Steve will survive. He already gets sidelined for football even though the MW band could be used. One other point: Though Mary's content was sometimes bordering on the commercial, Nick Marshall's shows were excellent. He exposed many tracks that get no airplay as a rule. ( and no, I've never met him )

Chris Anderton Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 I have been on the show 2 or 3 times when Nick was standing in for Mary. Real shame as i know there was a massive local following. IMHO they should be chopping that bloody "praise and grumble" show that goes out before it...then again they probably will when Stoke get relegated and your average attendence goes back to 12,000! Chris
