Chalky
he was probably in one of the splinter Drifters group, don't think he was an original drifter or one of the other line-ups who was with Atlantic? They did rotate a little and once had the whole group sacked. There was a court case a while back regarding who had the rights to the name, dunno how it went. There's quite a few who can claim to be a member of the drifters, whether it was one of the official line-ups or one of the others. Link to comment Social source share

Guest WPaulVanDyk
the CD of there hits definitive drifters said there was around 50 members who have come and gone many of which have appeard on various recordings. Johnny Moore played on most. there is 1 going as the proper drifters band and yet we also see others like Charlie Thomas Drifters and in Canada there is Rick Sheppards Drifters. Guest
"Ladies and gentlemen, for your musical entertainment we present The Drifting Drifters..." Good job they had to change their name , or we would have had to include The Shadows in the ranks of " membership " ........ Probably Johnny Moore looking the years. Was it Ray Lewis you saw? Think he lives over here now. I was on holiday in Cornwall last year, cottage in middle of nowhere and he did a gig in the local pub, tiny village. Apparently it was a favour for the new landlord who he knew. Can remember Ray doing the first Yarmouth Weekender along with Lew Kirton, Rocky Roberts and few more. Link to comment Social source share

Guest WPaulVanDyk
Yes but if you like to know the name the Drifters has been registered like a manager owns it if you go on official site it says about it. meaning that when the band was formed whatever members come and go the name stays and that becomes what is known as official drifters and should years later it means it's a band of members who was on none of there recordings then it still stays should former members or others form a band as the drifters they are not going as the original or definitive drifters. Mike Lofthouse
and yet we also see others like Charlie Thomas Drifters and in Canada there is Rick Sheppards Drifters. Rick Sheppard actually did sing on 'You Gotta Pay Your Dues' as well as Johnny Moore on Lead. Decca studios, New York, 24 April '70 Johnny Moore (Lead) Bill Fredericks (Baritone) Rick Sheppard (Tenor) Don thomas (Bass) Arranged by Rupert Holmes Produced by Paul Vance Got to be the same 'famous' Rupert Holmes who was born in Northwich, Cheshire before the family moved to New York. So he must of beat several others to be the first 'Northerner' to be involved in a Northern soul biggie!!! can't say it was a 'tailor made' though Link to comment Social source share
