Guest Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 apart from mr wilson whats the most expensive usa demo and issue, and the most expensive british demo and issue...??? USA demo is Junior Mccants on King I would have thought - 15.000 usd UK Demo probably Darrell Banks on yellow London I suspect ? As for US issues - I have no idea - could it be Magnetics on bonnie............ Margaret Little...........Lester Tipton.............JD Bryant......... etc.. etc... etc
Guest john s Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 Most expensive UK demo would be first Beatles 45, followed by second Beatles 45, third Beatles 45, Factory on CBS and MGM, Bowie on Vocalion maybe, Floyd with picture sleeves, Tintern Abbey, One in a Million, Darrell Banks... Most expensive issue has to be Sex Pistols on A&M, then John's Children maybe...?

Guest john s Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 In order of descending price (and I realise popsike is only a snapshot of some ebay sales, and will never be definitive)... https://www.popsike.com/php/quicksearch.php?pagenum=1&searchtext=uk+demo&incldescr=¤cy=&sortord=dprice&thumbs= quite interesting, I thought. Mike & the Modifiers, Carolyn Crawford, James Carr...

Rob Wigley Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 I would imagine you would get serious Wonga for a Tmi Yuro UK Liberty Demo of "It'll never be over for me" I recently turned down £800 for my issue copy--only because I don't want to sell-no idea of a true value but you don't see it for sale very often ! Rob
Guest taffy Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 I would have thought the rarest uk soul demo would be the Ben E King- Can't break the News - London Typed Demo.Only know of 3-4 copies.Timi Yuro demos were just stickers i think.

Sorry mate There was a label scan of it which appeared in a photo copy fanzine once, but it was just a Pete Wid wind up! this can be filed in the same category as the mythical Gerri Hall on Sue. Why, when people talk about rare English is it always the same handful of titles, Darrell Banks on London etc when some of the rarer titles are probably by Uk Beat groups etc which don't sell for big money. Talkin' about UK productions heard Georgie Fame's cover version of The Spinners "Sweet Thing" of his first LP on the radio the other day, I'd forgot how great this UK production sounded. Dave I never understand why Darrell banks tops the rarities list, things like Jon Ford philips demo, Vala reegan Atlantic demo, are much rarer but a quarter of the price. I'd say the ben E King is probably the top UK rarity.

Dave Yeah Dave your right remember that now, wasn't it in Steve G early Blackbeat mag? Also 2-3 other unissued sue 45 but ain't got the listing anymore and can't remember the numbers. The Craig on fontana must be up there as one of the rarest pop/beat 45'S.

Craig's not that rare, well thats what I keep telling myself despite it being 17 years since I swapped my Craig for a copy of Anita Bryant on CBS demo with Glen Henning. (Actually it's not that tough compared to some of those records, £300 should get you one now. Crawdaddy Simone is up at £800 or so now. That Tintern Abbey, I got a mint demo of that from a boot sale, this was pre-price guides, loveable Mick Smith gave me something like £20 for it. Got a Frankie & Johnny out of the same box)

Rich Yup, you did Rich ................... along with most every other important 60s UK Soul Demo ! And for some strange reason you had serious second thoughts about selling me that John Andrews - Parlophone DJ I told you it was just a worthless bit of Mod junk................
Sebastian Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 The other side has a female group and a track called My Love Come Home This side is definately not Ben E King and it stumps everyone I play it to . Is it Cilla Black, perhaps? The Bystanders also recorded that tune on Piccadilly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21ARXNvPuJc
Wiggyflat Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Same song, definately not Cilla or the Bystanders. What are the composer credits
Pete S Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Same song, definately not Cilla or the Bystanders. What are the composer credits Could just be an unknown demo singer they got in at the Music Publishers. Then the management of the UK groups hear it and do their own versions.
Wiggyflat Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 (edited) Could just be an unknown demo singer they got in at the Music Publishers. Then the management of the UK groups hear it and do their own versions. Seems strange but the other side is definately Ben E King though.Bystanders is probably a cover so whoever did the original of that track is probably what I have got.Sounds like a black female singer with a girl group behind her. I know that the Dakotas did a version of I Can't Break The News To Myself (B side of Spider and The Fly) which I have got somewhere so the publishing theory is right and that it is an acetate used to try and get UK artists to cover songs. Edited March 22, 2010 by wiggyflat
Sebastian Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Same song, definately not Cilla or the Bystanders. What are the composer credits It seems to be an italian tune from the beginning. The writing credits are: Gene Colonnello, Mario Panzeri and Conrad. "Conrad" is perhaps the person that wrote the english lyrics? I have no idea really, just putting it out there.
Gilly Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Heres another one, How rare is William Amos Hunt, Would You Beleive, Camp. Same song as on us Streamside?

Guest Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 (edited) Theres no black Hickory issue, it's white... Speaking of Timi yuro ..... A mate of mine ( not on the scene ) who buys and sells rock records , brought me a carrier bag of pressings in November which were of no interest to him , and this was amongst them . A white label one side ( Garnett Mimms " Looking for You " ) , with this a very clever mock up on the other side ....... Malc Burton Edited March 22, 2010 by Malc Burton
Sebastian Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 with this a very clever mock up on the other side ....... Pity about the two (!) spelling mistakes...
Guest Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 (edited) Pity about the two (!) spelling mistakes... Which two ? excuse me for not noticing ....... All I stated that it was a clever mock up . warb Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 I've aways though that EMI pressed-up 750 demos of every record. Is this not true ?. Rarest issue Dennis D'ell ,Hoagy Lands, Frankie/Classicals,John Ford, Barbara Mills,etc.. Rarest demo Lou Johnson on London Bigtop ?.
