Guest Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 the worst thing about the Casino is that a lot of todays soulies never went - which could be the cause of all the negative remakes about it on soul source

Guest Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 (edited) The fact that people can't get over the fact it's gone... A fact similar to that of the Japanese soldier who was found on an island in the South Pacific after WWII had ended , who was intent on fighting to the death , refusing to believe the war was over ....... Agentsmith Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 bhoyo, we cant get it out of our heads because its at the summit....many conquered it but 1000's since want a similar mountain to go to...unfortunately, unlike mountains, which are eternal, buildings get pulled down so....you had better cherish, for instance, the kings hall though i doubt a victorian colossus as that will ever descend into rubble....may we have many more all-nighters there!...oh, and the 100 club...now that is an INSTITUTION ( now dont start references to nutters, PLEASE! ). we'll never stop venting our feelings because its engraved on our grey matter and our hearts forever no matter how many times we went...it wasnt the catalyst but raised the profile of northern soul to heights unimaginable. dare i say the day we stop talking about it, will be the day none of us who remember it, are here anymore...god willing, thats a long time off!. rob.h
Guest aintgotit Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 ...oh how we laughed unmitigated misery of some old bastard complaining that his time of attendence was halcyon, and those who followed lacked his authenticity , his passion, his originality or his taste. just as his parents probably pissed all over his enthusiasm as he first went to discover soul music for himself. There was plenty of doubt outside of soul , For you , going at the time , was there anything intolerable, except being unable to go? Even on a night without a crowd or usual accompaniment, involving a kicking , an arrest or , an irrational feelling of being watched. ( unless followed by former or latter) id take that over the prospect of slow death of my spirit in weekly instalments.in my home town.

Mark S Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 There are about ten threads running about the Casino says a lot about the place . I cant think of anything bad about the Casino I loved the place and all the daft things about it , the bogs shit pop tunes all part of what made the place ,not much soul but so much fun . The wierd thing is that now I expect so much more from a venue but if I could go back and do it all again I wouldnt hesitate

Guest miss nancy Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Tis just nostalgia, no harm in sharing a few memories if asked, certainly didn't expect it would cause so much offence.

Well Said, I don't respond to a lot of post's for the very reason that some tw*t may have a differance of opinion to that of mine, Then they jump down your throat with both feet, Isn't it about having different opinions ???? This gets debates going. YES.

Guest mickeyb Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Would that be Alan Flysher from Sheffield way? Bound to be Al, if Craig was in the car - bet Pilnic was in there too (and Psycho). Happy days.........
Guest mickeyb Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 (edited) The bogs!! The generally rough people. The skinheads from Wigan (inside) - and the twats who wanted a fight on the way from the station. The pissed up Rugby League types pushing ther weight about - ask Wid. The thieving girl posse (from Wigan as well, I think). The rude/nasty bouncers - except for the young guy with a moustache and long hair. Russ making as much money as possible, without trying - fair play to him! The DS - a bit heavy handed, don't you know. It was filthy. The muggers in the bogs (including that horrible little git from Halifax). The even nastier muggers in the corridor by M's. I could go on, but it kinda begs the question - "how come I went as much as I did?". Maybe you asked the wrong question Webby? Edited March 15, 2010 by mickeyb

Harrythedog Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Bound to be Al, if Craig was in the car - bet Pilnic was in there too (and Psycho). Happy days......... Spot on. Ray Hudson also joined us as well. Usually got there around 5.00 and left around 7.00. Had my shoes thrown out of the car window and generally met people who i only thought existed in far fetched police dramas. I can laugh about it now, but at the time-Jesus

Guest ritchie Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 The roulette tables were on the piss ..& ..The black Jack was rigged.... Though on a more serious note Russ's facial fuzz ensemble + waking up on the balcony with half a ton of Bazooka Joe in me hair.
Guest ritchie Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Bazooka Joe Did you read the cartoon? Yeah they use to call it the comic did'nt they? collect about 3million and you got a base ball mit or something... And as for the humor, I think it got lost somewhere over the Atlantic
Guest miss nancy Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 Perhaps this was a one off.....?....only happened to me once during my time at the Casino between 76-79. One night I heard two lads trying to roll a smallish kid for some money just outside the bar on the stairs side and was so incensed that I stuck my big nose in. I received a smack in the face for my trouble and was knocked into the bar area itself. One of the DJ's (don't know which one but he said he was a DJ) came and sat me down and got me some water and washed the blood off my face....wish I knew which one but I wasn't in the know about such things at the time. I was 17. The two so-called mates I had travelled up with disappeared. Perhaps it was my imagination but when I found them (my 'mates') again, they kept disappearing!!! You live and learn! dogstoat Thats awful! Can't remember seeing anything like this but I remember one morning as everyone was leaving 2 girls had a massive fight just over the road from the entrance, torn clothes, bloody faces, proper horrible and they really meant to kill each other!!! Not nice at all - true downer.
