Earl Van Dyke - Can't Help Myself Tmg 814

There has been a spate of these selling for £50-£60 on eBay, with several being listed at any one time.

Great record but surely not rare at all. Is this another outbreak of eBay madness? Or am I missing something?

Just had a look in me TMG box...phew, I have a copy! Did it get a 45 release in the USA? If not, maybe that's the reason??? g.gif

USA release on SOUL S35014, label available in both designs (tramlines and concentric circles), seem to think concentric circle design is a bit scarcer (one of the first on that design) but both can be picked up quite cheap. Good sound though. Dean

Definitely Pick Them Up Cheap

Many different variations, I bought the Soul DEMO for $5 Last Year

Different DJ copy design (apart from the bloody biro that is!)

Agree about Labels being a Beautiful Art form, I find them fascinating

with all the different Variations & Designs over such a Small Canvas.

That's a RARE One Mate, I haven't seen that variation before for 35014

This one just arrived today, not easy to find as a DEMO either.

I know exactly what you mean, However I have seen various numbers as a Soul DEMO with this Design.

I haven't seen one close up, only scans, but I believe they may be a West Coast Variation.

I think it's the font of SOUL, haven't seen it before on a 60s record,

Probably me being too suspicious, don't trust anything unless it's Nashville Matrixed and even then............

Another subtle difference that looks wrong but feels right:

And having now seen this Sammy Ward, I'm going to forget everything I ever learned about being able to tell an original from a boot!!!! thumbsup.gif

It's the Motown stuff, so many different Pressing Plants Involved.

Notice how SOUL is slightly different on the Jimmy Ruffin DEMO

It is a Minefield, However with Motown Labels there are quite a few Different pressing plants involved & the vast majority are OK.

Here's a Couple on Tamla, again they have different credit layout, as they are different pressing plant.

I guess we're lucky that there aren't too many Motown related boots, apart from the obvious ones,

The Sammy Ward has a MR stamp, R 4KM - 9399 - 1, dleta 53820.

There is a boot of S35018 b/w promo Barbara Randolph, I Got A Feeling, that gets passed off.
