Loads really but none spring to mind at the moment.

It could be song I have not heard for a while, a song that reminds me of someone who is no longer with us.

A song that reminds me of something I have done in the past etc.thumbsup.gif

Anything that costs more that I can really afford Webby

And Cissy Houston's He/I believe/I'll be there - not really tears as such but fairly strong emotions and there are a fair few more that hit the same spot mabye not quite as intensely as Cissy Houston. When I hear Jimmy Ruffin's Farewell I'm a spotty kid again in a ski jacket at Wrekenton Miners Welfare in 1969 - there's nothing that makes you sense the past more that a piece of music IMO and quite often with a mixture of happiness and sadness.

Cheers

Only this Saturday afternnon, I filled up listening to Willie Hutch's incredible "Walking on My Love".

Caught me by surprise really.

I've always liked the record... but it just floored me at that particular moment.

A private moment, that I'm only sharing with you, because you asked.

But seriously, this is an underrated true Soul gem.

The Lyric, Vocal and Production are Absolute Perfection!

One day, when you least expect it... when your heart is unprotected!

This is JUST SOUL!

Listen and weep.

LOADS OF TUNES HAVE BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE BUT THE TWO THAT STAND OUT ARE RAY POLLARD THE DRIFTER AND CODY BLACK MR BLUE ,FIRST TIME I HEARD THESE MANY MOONS AGO WAS WHEN I REALISED THAT SOUL WAS MORE THAN JUST MUSIC IT WENT MUCH DEEPER THAN THAT . I THINK ITS FAIR TO SAY IT BECOMES A PART OF YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER .

THE LAST SOUL TUNE I SHED A TEAR OVER RECENTLY WAS RANDY BROWN ID RATHER HURT MYSELF

Sorry to paraphrase your thread Phil , but in respect of " Did Any Tunes Make You Cry " , not " Do Any Tunes Make You Cry " , I am afraid most of them paraded off as " soul " at a venue in 1977 did ........

Lots of tunes make me cry for so many different reasons, a couple that spring to mind:

Ruby Andrews - Just Loving You

Bette Midler - Wind beneath my Wings ( not soul, but beautiful )

Gladys Knight - Midnight train to Georgia

<<<<<<<<-----------

And more recently:

Mavis Staples - It makes me wanna cry

IMPRESSIONS-IM LOVING NOTHING-CURTOM -

Great taste Baz! I remember when the missus went and I was on my own for a while, listening to this really did tug at my heart strings and left me feeling sorry for myself. Quality tune, the Nolan Chance version on 'Thomas' is great too.

When i think about dancing about like a loon 14 year old to love hustle at the casino -well iT did lead to records like this and a greater understanding to a certain extent of the bigger world of soul music -this track resonates the true meaning of soul music to me and the lyric "how long have you hated your white teacher and "who told you to love your black preacher really hit home hard for me -civil rights anthem -last one for me before this becomes the curtis show all five posted just really blow me away!!

Jackie beavers - iv got a love - because it reminds me why i love dancin to this awesome music and also the lasses in my life . Ashanti- rescue- because of same as above re soul (alnite long take me away to another place save me) and the friends iv lost along the way (the sirens) . Celine dion - think twice - a real girly song and because it reminds me of a time when, to my deep shame, i contemplated suicide and shoudnt have because i had responibilitys to young people . And loads and loads more songs too many to mention . Oh no im playing them and crying again
