ImberBoy Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Is there such a thing as a perfect allnighter? So can we build an imaginary Allnighter? Northernsoul is a funny old game, what's right for some aint right for others but we do all have a common bond and that is a love of rare soul, yup some have stayed faithful, some seam to be in loveless marriages and other fling them selves about like floozies. If we were to build a "Super Allnighter", how would we do it? Could we do it and please every one without excluding any splinter groups? How many rooms would we need to have and could we have a main room? Would the venue have to be so big to accommodate all of the sub sections that it would never fill? If money was no option and we could pick any venue what would we go for? I think the easy answer would be Wigan Casino but I think this is the wrong answer. Yes there are those who pine for the lost days but aren't they really pining for their lost youth? Who would DJ? Is our scene so oil and water now days that each DJ can only play to a particular crowd? Surely every one started out with similar tastes and don't we all kind love Frank Wilson? So can we build an imaginary Allnighter?

Ezzie Brown Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 yep................nothing to do with music tho............... ezzie
Guest SteveJohnston Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 I don't know about a perfect all-nighter but an all-dayer based on Neil Rushtons 70's principals of the Manchester Ritz day's would be just wonderful IMO even more so if you added live acts say like Little Anthony & the Imperials Lisa Stansfield, Frankie Knuckles! & a second room with pole dancers instead of R&B or record sales room Steve J
Dekka Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 There already exists a perfect allnighter for ME, it's at the Falcon in Burnley. The resident DJ's and guests provide an eclectic mix of music which suits MY taste. So as long as Burnley exists I have MY Perfect allnighter long may it continue
Guest in town Mikey Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 I may go against the grain here, but my perfect allnighter, would begin about 10.30 am, and finish about 11pm. I wouldnt hit that wall about 3am then

Where are they on? How much? Sorry Imber boy, there is no such thing. Not for everyone. There's always one miserable git.2 if i go.
Guest Simon Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Someone say Little Anthony? Where are they on? How much? Sorry Imber boy, there is no such thing. Not for everyone. There's always one miserable git.2 if i go. The Capitol Soul Club/Dome was the perfect nighter so i guess if you pinned a couple of hours on the end it would have been the perfect allnighter, it was pretty much universally lauded by the newies/oldies whatever crowd. Simon

Simon I must agree , It was a great venue My perfect all nighter would be.............................A room with air conditioning.............. top dj's, but i choose every record being played Having Hypoglycemia..........................I would like a small lounge with all the food i could eat Beeing a woman..................................I would like another small room, where i could buy vintage clothing & shoes with very very cheap original vynal Am i asking for too much??? good angel Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 As a venue ive always loved Keele, dont know why. Kev
Mark S Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 In Markworld the perfect allnighter would have an across the board music policy and a chill out room playing beat ballads
Rugby Soul Club Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 My perfect all nighter would be.............................A room with air conditioning.............. ...Debbie it jus goes to prove that we all look for something different. I hate air-con, coz it spreads nasty bugs and I always pick one up before I leave...give me sweaty, hot anyday... We'd need an allniter with about 20 rooms to keep everyone happy...
Guest gordon russell Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 FOR AN ALLNIGHTER THAT STARTS AT 10 AND FINISHES AT 6 (NOT 3 ) AND PLAYS WITH AN UPBEAT VIBE ALL NIGHT (NOT JUST SPORADICALLY ) WITH SOUL MUSIC TO DIE FOR.......IT ALREADY EXISTS burnley
Guest gordon russell Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 I may go against the grain here, but my perfect allnighter, would begin about 10.30 am, and finish about 11pm. Guest Matt Male Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 The Capitol Soul Club/Dome was the perfect nighter so i guess if you pinned a couple of hours on the end it would have been the perfect allnighter, it was pretty much universally lauded by the newies/oldies whatever crowd. Simon Makes me sad it ever closed everytime someone mentions it. It was near perfect.
Guest clanger v2 Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Closest I got to perfection was Steve and Lyd Cato's wedding reception. Great venue, great DJ's playing great sounds and surrounded by wonderful people. If that atmosphere could be recreated at an allnighter, it would be absolute perfection.
Ian Parker Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Yep, but can we transfer the dancefloor from Scenesville into the Dome as well please? Scenesville had a cracking dance floor Debbie x
Guest aintgotit Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 kin el simon, are you asking everyone as part of a feasibility study , or is it a little horney prod with the little devils advocate prong that some on here are fond of proddin others into rash remarks they soon regret making. I think the answer is about five forums below this one, or wherever lookbacks is. There,s your answer, mate, people already do .
Guest aintgotit Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Someone say Little Anthony? Where are they on? How much? Sorry Imber boy, there is no such thing. Not for everyone. There's always one miserable git.2 if i go. Or even pole dancers WITH "R&B.. " A big well ventilated room with a cantilever roof that retract to let the sunshine in , barstaff that engage you in a chat about upcoming events theyve heard about and pass on to you , along with directions and their phone number if you get lost on the way there. An oldies room with none in it, and a terrace playing soulful house, jazz funk , seventies and a shmorgash board of croshover for that grumpy bastard connery in the corner.populated with people who like , music. and dj,s who spent much of their life trying to select tunes which link together in such a way as you feel each one is even better than the one you,ve just heard and danced manically too. grinning like the village idiot your sure everyone is convinced you are till people pat you on the back as they pass just to let you know they had fun watching you gettin down with yer own bad self! Then when the music comes to an end , the pub has decided to stay open just to serve you a nightcap before you wander off home as the sky turns from black to indigo to crimson to to orange to yellow then black again as your head hits the pillow.Dont know where you,d get such a ridiculous synchronicity of circumstances, im goin to bridlington for a bloody weekend in june . I mean its not the bloody dogs balearics ,is it ?
ImberBoy Posted March 10, 2010 Author Posted March 10, 2010 My perfect Nighter would be full of circle skirts n camel toe........................... just like Stoke was

Guest aintgotit Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Best starting point for any dayer as a template for the perfect club , was WOW on outskirts of sheffield one may bank holiday sunday about six years ago. you could have fitted a jumbo jet in there sittin on its wheels or standin on its tail. and four other rooms off it. As the day went on it got more and more populated till by the time you grasped it you looked around and the club was FULL in every room, and whichever direction you chose to point you had a view of people dancing in light in silhouette, black light or fleetin flashes of silver, blue giving highlight to movement all around you.IM sure they had a caff in there. From about seven till it finished about one, it was banging in there. For me its the best club ive visited in this country for that one off. KEELE did that for many years beacause it had a no nonsense, no apology , no need to justify to the people who sought a venue they could feel matched and complimented their sense of purpose. It should after all make you congratulate yourself on the idea you had of coming out to this place today , tonight, and look, all these other people had the same idea , and feel just as glad to be here as you.as they,ll no doubt tell you when the chance arises.Ive always thought the best nights i had involved me or someone else summarising the thoughts of the person they happen to be chatting to. without any disclosure from them . And like the male or female who,s just said to you what you were thinking about saying yourself, iwhen that conversation is interrupted by the sound coming out the speakers that just sums up , this minute , this is the moment you grab because its why you came, and the spaces vanish as everyones enthusiasm bubbles up in the places where the spaces once were.Clubs are for revelling in , and having just what you need when you recognise what that need is and then let you enjoy it before revealing another surprise . no lifeguard necessary in the toilets, or a space made for you to sit down and relax without havin to accomodate the movement of people around you. Somewhere unusual and designed to be a nice space to occupy when your not doing all those other things you ve got up to so far. Lots of clubs do it , if you go out with the purpose of having the best night thats possible , then your receptive to being pleasantly surprised.I dont think as a whole , most people in this country enjoy hearing that others might be enjoying such recreation . it seems to stir up feelings of inadequacy . "why didnt i get to experience that? "Hmmph, grown ups behaving like children , dressin up n pissin off ahlfway round the bloody country , flouncin about in a hall we,d probably never set foot in except if there was bingo . dancing to christ knows what , all sounds bloody same , like some bloody daft kids at a wedding. Not like those of us who take our responsibilities seriously , being just round the corner from the kids in the house so we know where they are and who know where we are, just havin a couple quiet drinks , showin we,re properly settled n making the area a proper community , keeping it alive, real people like us know who our friends are. not having to fuck off to another county to make friends. Its all in the imagination. isnt it? No one can piss about with your imagination, If the car park and the queue seem special , then they,ll be the starting point for things to get better and better one would assume. personally im usually more surprised by my locomotion in a crowd , when my feet arent doing the work, and the excitement is tempered by the threat of asphyxiation from the bag laggin behind the strap laggin around me neck . I prefer doin me meerkat impression once am in the place forraging,( effects of the bagstrap i expect) for a space to dance.and get shut of me coat. Is that perfect for me ? Or is it .. just my imagination .. running away with me?
Guest aintgotit Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Mind you everyones idea of fun isnt always the same . remember making one lass,s night at the 100 club, no , not that ,or that, it was because trying to spin i caught me hand on the back curtains ( on the back wall), and rolled myself up in em. i think she actually p**** herself, especially i thought as i tried to laugh it off with me eric morecambe impression . But the real joke had passed .

Guest becchio Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 (edited) A 2010 rotherham clifton hall. Big venue big sprung dancefloor one main room playing across the board uptempo "oldies" and "newies" mixed up together. No other rooms , no tables chairs and people gettin in the way of the dancefloor and no vinyl convention vibe in the main room . Re whatsthiscalled "sunshine" lol no no no. Dark it should be as dark as possible and non of those flippin lamp thingys glaring everywhere from the record bar or dj stand . And deffo no "sunshine" or we might all turn into pumpkins or shrivelled up vampires or summat . Well i do anyway :-) infact make it run into an all dayer too so we dont have to even see daylight . Ian Parker Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Camel toe? Is that a dance? I think it's one of these Debbie x
Guest Bobalou Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Yes we can build a perfect allnighter, if everyone just went out with the right head on, had the banter and a dance, etc etc, we're all getting older, life's to short and all that sh**!!
Guest Bobalou Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 I think it's one of these Debbie x Great tat, sh** toes!!
Guest WPaulVanDyk Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 well i am gonna say that i could dream it here me and my dad are promoters we have a venue in Peterborough and it will run from say 7.30 - 1.30. There will be the most widest selection of Northern soul you will ever hear. so i expect all my DJ's to come in and play anything that is Northern, R & B, Modern, Crossover and Motown. It has to be all mixed so i am not expecting the 70 odd same records i hear in Peterborough but i want to hear a set from all DJ's i would ask so they can play a wide mix. With hope people who come will be happy with hearing well know along with underplayed etc. i could even dj first to start it off. I also feel there is no wrong in playing something like This Old Heart of Mine instead of the usual Why When Love Is Gone or My Love Is Your Love. But sadly my nighter wouldn't exist and i have to make do with most venues here playing like 70 tracks i hear all the time and at least 10 different ones
Ian Parker Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Great tat, sh** toes!! Yes, nasty looking toes! Just found the pic off the internet Debbie x
Guest aintgotit Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 whatsthiscalled , I don't know were this place is but I wanna come with you! bridlington it is then!
Soulsider Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 (edited) It would have: The music from Blackpool Mecca The atmosphere from Wigan Casino The dancefloor from the Ritz Ballroom The building from Blackpool Tower DJs: Ian Levine, Colin Curtis, Richard Searling, Dave Evison, Butch, Ade Croasdale, Mark Bicknell Record stalls: Pete Smith Edited March 11, 2010 by soulsider
harpo1 Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Gotta sat matey...i've had shit nights at the good 'uns, and great nights at the shit ones Think its a mixture of your own mood, whos there what is played, and lots of other possible factors. I myself have had a real humdinger of a time these last few years, enjoy it like when i was a young man, lot to do with my own personal levels of self esteem and worth, and a less hectic persuit of certain things, dance more, buy records again and all my old mates as well as many new ones seem more approachable, than i once wrongly assumed they were. You always seem to be enjoying nights we are at....keep it up Harpo
Naughty Boy Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 bridlington it is then! He he........ one awesome venue
Guest Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 Is there such a thing as a perfect allnighter? Yeah Bradford in the late 80's..
