I once sold just about my entire collection to Pat (top man, Stafford wont be Stafford without him!!) many many rare goodies one being Cecil Washington.................£40!!............ok it was in 1998 but still........its defo NOT £2000 rare!

And i agree with the person that said its a joke at that price ( £2000 ) And it dont matter if you dont see them around anymore what does matter is the records rarity or not as the case maybe in terms of a value. You dont ever see for sale Fluffy Fulana and i would say its ten times rarer than CW but it would not fetch 2K..........so what is exactly going on with record prices? what does give a record its intrinsic value? it certainly is not its rarity thats for sure. Could start a whole new thread on this one, would be interesting to see what people think.

Could start a whole new thread on this one, would be interesting to see what people think. intrinsic value - - always has been and always will be a blend of the following: 1. rarity 2. popularity - ie is it being played regularly and packs the floor 3. legendary status - classic in-demand track - been around since the opening of the doors to the casino 4. label status - does it come with the demand that labels such as Shrine & La Beat carry 5. Artist status - Again like label certain artists carry status - Ray Pollard, Magnetics Etc 6. Finally, in the case of any auction how many are bidding for it and at what point does the heart rule the head and the "i will not miss out" factor take over I have picked up rarities relatively cheaply, when far more common disks were demanding a lot more - why because most of the collectors at any time want the tracks the top jocks are spinning, not what the collectors have tucked away in their dusty collections. Me i haven't been anywhere or brought anything for nigh on 20 years, but i bet their are very few on here that will disagree with my observations

Not because this is a rare record worth that price but it's typical of the avg margin's Pat & John are somehow able to achieve on auction items. Eddie who plays at our do bought one for £1600 last year and i thought he paid over the odds.

Add to that the quality and the history of the record. There is always going to be a demand for this. If Gene Toones is worth the £1500 it regularly fetches then this is worth double. A very fair point chalky. As with all bigger ticket soul records, demand never seems to fall and it's typical of the point that people will pay what they wanna pay. If they're not prepared to fork out big money, I'm sure pat and the likes will find someone who is
