I remember Les Walker having northern soul karaoke at her birthday party couple of years back.

I must confess to having a go, but I was very, very drunk.

This has actually been around for a few years - and another volume too, I've become infamous locally for my karaoke rendition of "Long After Tonight Is All Over" :hatsoff2:

(no, as far as I know there are no boots circulating rolleyes.gif )

I seem to remember this Chalky.

Was it at the Cheshire Cat too?

Or should that be the Strangled Cat :hatsoff2:

It was indeed the Cheshire Cat. I haven't looked for the flyer yet but I looked at the calendar Dave did and lo and behold there is a copy of the flyer on the January page of the 2000 calendar!! I will look for the flyer at the weekend!!

The Kara-okeh night was 1993 thumbup.gif Knew all these would come in handy one day :cheese1:

Well if I can shed a light on that...... This cd implies it presents 'The Best of Northern Soul'. What am I supposed to think of that, as a Soul newbie, exploring the music? Being actually quite smitten by the music?

To illustrate, I've been into Folk music for many years now, it was still quite underground when I started off as a musician in 1993. A relatively small 'scene' with indigenous instruments etc. Until the Riverdance came along. And boom....... Folk music became a commercial thing. What a shame. I gradually lost the inspiration to keep performing because of it. There is still a vast group of us that avoid those 'Best of Celtic Music' thingies that started appearing at every supermarket and drug store over here in Holland. And on eBay. I cringe whenever I come across stuff like that. To me it is so disrespectful to true Folk music.

Believe me, even I can see what the fuss is about. But hey....... each to their own......hatsoff2.gif

Meanwhile, I am enjoying the Soul music I track down on here, and on other sites. thumbup.gif

Folk Music was "underground" in 1993? Are you serious?

Folk is probably one of the oldest music scenes there is.

As for the NS Karaoke CD - an appropriate social comment on Northern Soul at the moment. I'm certain that a number of nights could include an hour of Karaoke without lowering the tone of their evening or reducing the enjoyment of their punters. Did it have Dee Da Do on it?

There as always been an underground folk /acoustic scene... Manchester as been rich in that form of music since i came here in 1989...

Don't reply though, that will have to be for yet another topic, in freebasing i guess

Not a bad snatch at the snake from that bloke,.. Good sound quality, he just needs a little more practice and could get a few folk moist with his soulful voice and sweet moves

I am talking Holland, not the UK. It was definitely underground over here.

The link didn't work for me and i was wondering so i googled Northern Soul Karaoke CD and maybe i should not have bothered.

I can understand there has to be some form of Karaoke CD's. They been doing Motown and soul ones (with the odd Northern for years). Like Jimmy James but if at Karaoke would point out you can't beat original vinyl record

oh and anyone notice ther's no Frank Wilson so can't be done by Russ or else that would be 1st choice
