Guest SteveJohnston Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Back in the days of attending the Casino i never thought i would ever find an issue of Tony Middleton "paris blues" Then in 97 after attending my first soul night in a long time and over the next few months finding out about all the T,O,T,W tunes i mist out on someone played Troy Dodds "try my love" at Huglescote it instantly became my number one want! it took a few years to find the issue but when it did my Tony Middleton came in the same deal two years ago. The last holy grail for me lasted from my pre Casino days, a record my cousin had in his collection and took me till this year to get one thanks to that nice man Pete Smith, Manchesters's Playboys "i feel good" Fontana I still have many Holy Grails to find and like most silly bugers that collect soul records if one comes up, the bills can go on hold . Guest Gogs Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Can't afford big ticket records, but one that i wanted was Terry Collier- Ordinary Joe, managed to get it on a demo really chuffed
Guest Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 (edited) Al Williams - LaBeat Alexander Patton - UK Capitol they'd do me nicely, Ian I have not got a copy of Al Williams and would like one on either label. But I have personally been lucky with Alexander Patton on UK capitol - I have had UK copys go through my hands in 15 years. The first copy was from Beanos in Croydon one Saturday in the early 90s - and a minter............ I suppose its just your own luck with tunes? As for tunes I used to think were really hard that I have bought in the last 12 months.................Glen Miller on Stag...............Danny Woods correctone................................headlines lulau..............jessie davis on era Not holy grails, Just fav tunes that I never thought I would be able to afford. But.............. I would still really like a copy of george pep on coleman Edited March 1, 2010 by mossy

Guest WPaulVanDyk Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Well i would like to add i have seen a copy of what i want but site dosen't work to buy it. but i would say i never seen another copy before and it is Jackie Wilson - Open The Door To Your Heart on an Aussie EP. which to my knowledge is the only time you will see it on a 45. However i do own it on the original LP of Higher and Higher and i never had seen one until finding it on Gemm a few years ago
Benji Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Until late 2009 I thought I'd never own Eddie Parker on Awake and JD Bryant on Shrine. And guess what? I still don't own them 1
Guest Brett F Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 My own holy grail is a 1976 Californian 45'( not in any guide book or even the R'n' B Indies) only ever seen it once, and I didn't get it (doh !), the search will continue so who knows.

vince ayres Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Al Williams - LaBeat Alexander Patton - UK Capitol they'd do me nicely, Ian i had the al williams on palmer a few years back, think isold it to manship for about £800 but the biggest laugh was swapping my alexander patton on u k white demo for a copy of the martin luther king album on uk tamla as i was trying to collect the full set, what an arse!!!
Hammersoul Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 My holy grails when i first started collecting back in 1990 were: i was born to love you-Timeless Legend. 5 mins-Differances. Was well chuffed when i found them, especially Differances, took me 10 years to find a mint copy.Seen 4 in last 2 years although they wasn`t mint. Had loads since but got em all except one little bugger
Chalky Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 aren't these just hard records to get? A holy grail is surely something you will NEVER own. After all the holy grail has never been seen....well not since the days of Jesus Christ 1

After all the holy grail has never been seen....well not since the days of Jesus Christ GOOD POINT CHALKY, MAYBE TALKIN PERSONAL HOLY GRAILS HERE BUT WHEN I STARTED COLLECTING RARE SOUL VINYL IN THE MID EIGHTIES, I NEVER DREAMED I'D OWN THE LIKES OF THE NU-RONS, ADMIRATIONS ON PEACHES, IMPERIAL C'S, GEORGE LEMONS, JIMMY BOHORN. After all the holy grail has never been seen....well not since the days of Jesus Christ Good point,at the time they seemed like holy grail records to me,obviously to others they were easy to find . Trouble is if there that rare, what`s the point in trying to find it.There always be cheaper records has/if not better. How about:Fluorescence Smog, never seen a copy for sale although i have been offered a copy but didn`t have the money Does that count? Edited March 1, 2010 by Hammersoul
Roger Williams Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 How about:Fluorescence Smog, never seen a copy for sale although i have been offered a copy but didn`t have the money Does that count? It counts as a lucky escape, Wayne, it's shite.

Wish I'd bid on the acetate last nite on the bay (ended $810) .....prob never see that again!! Properly unattainable I reckon
Paul-s Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 JOHN HARRIS & the Soul Sayers - Hangin In kerston UNIFICS - Tables Turn (tk 8 & 10) studio acetate and the tunes that haven't found me yet.
Hammersoul Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 It counts as a lucky escape, Wayne, it's shite. Very good Roger ...A lot of people share your view, think it`s a marmite record
Guest Dante Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 aren't these just hard records to get? A holy grail is surely something you will NEVER own. After all the holy grail has never been seen....well not since the days of Jesus Christ Well, it depends, doesn't it? For me, right now, virtually everything over 200 quid is a holy grail. For a lot of folks over here, it's close to nothing. For example, a Holy Grail for me is Dianne Elliott - When He Speaks (New Horizon). I probably could afford it, but go ahead and find one! PS If someone has a copy or can point me in the right direction, PM me
NEV Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 aren't these just hard records to get? A holy grail is surely something you will NEVER own. After all the holy grail has never been seen....well not since the days of Jesus Christ Your right in what you say Chalky but the question is imo ,records that to you were holy grails...the one's you never thought you would ever own....but now do My own take on it is ....i never thought i'd ever spend more than £100 for a record let alone 4 figures, so most of my records fall into the holy grail category I still have too many i want and thanks to one or two good people i've been in contact over the last few yrs....the list keeps growing. Seriously tho.....i think over the last couple of yrs ...almost everything big ticket has turned up and they still are ..it's just a matter of price . One i'd settle for more than any other off the top of my head POETS on J-2 ....Sheer class
Simsy Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Which one did you get Swifty?? My favorite Magnetics is: Lady In Green.... Good shout Bridgey! Never dreamt I'd own a Frank Wilson on SOUL. No never had that dream and never owned that record.
