ok, heres the deal....at school we were taught what the primary colours were.so, whats the most popular colour label in your playbox?

ill bet, in the main its YELLOW.....

YES, WEVE ALL GOT WHITE DEMOS but it stands to reason that when a person is djing in opaque/subdued light its hard to decipher names and titles hence, green, blue black and red are hard to read without a torch and even silver is a problem As it shines and any printing appears to fade.

you cant fault yellow....unless, of course youre colourblind.

secondly....and this is definitely anorak,....how many djs can do a complete hour set of yellow labels from their playbox?

i witnessed this, as dave greenhill will testify in london at a gig in st pauls when i noticed one dj had played several records in sequence, all of which were...YELLOW!

he thought it was a great idea and proceeded to trawl his box....and so did the next dj after him....HOW ANORAK IS THAT?!

THERES THE CHALLENGE THEN......anyone up for it?

A quick check of box 1

out of aprox 207 records 37 labels are all yellow or mostly yellow but also got 37 white labels

Box 2

aprox 200 records 33 yellow and 23 white

box 3

aprox 220 records 27 yellow and 24 white

so the totals from aprox 627 records are 97 yellow and 84 white but these are only the ones i can get to easily, i,m not going to try counting the others i got lying loose here or the 1000s i've got in my bedroom

so i could do a yellow or white spot from any of my main boxes

Reckon we should take the MGM, Brunswick Demo's etc. out of the mix here, just stick to Yellow Stockers/Issues which should sort the men from the boy's here lol

Souli In the City quite a few years ago Nick Brown did quite a few yellows in a row (can't remember the total) then Stuart Tyler came on and out did him - with Nick claiming that he should be disqualified as the Baysound he played was actually 'primrose' not 'yellow'. Fun times

Danny Woods - you had me fooled

two of my fav YELLOWS

think youve got gist and yes, i was mulling over anorak rules...mmm....YELLOW STOCKS, like mark said mgms colours (import of course) are predominately black on yellow so its lemon on the colour chart, no pretty multi-colours or creams or peach or orangish....BOLD YELLOWS which take presidence over the printing....motown? well, vip's are ok, that of course being the early demo's.

IM GLAD YOU PERCIEVE IT AS A BIT OF LIGHT HEARTED FUN AND NOT CHURLISH STUPIDITY OR ONEUPMANSHIP.....see, once youve rummaged in your boxes and sat back to take stock youre probably finding you can put together some quite imaginative sets without having to ingratiate oldies....not that theres anything wrong with that either....SO KEEP IT UP!

I used to constantly do stuff like that with a mate of mine when we were running a midweek Club!!! We started off with different colours, then with certain words within the title (jerkin), instruments (flute) ...The first one to fail to put a track on had to pay a round of drinks!!!! Great fun!!!!!!!!
