Kjw Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Anyone help me out with this I was thinking of having a website done to sell from and just wondered whether it would be worthwhile Do many buyers on here actually take the time to go through sellers websites or do you prefer just to buy from the sales listing within this forum Also wondered how sellers on here with their own sites benefited - do you get many sales and are there enough to justify the outlay cost, upkeep and the time required to maintain them Any advice would be really appreciated
Ian Parker Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 (edited) Hi, I used to have a website selling goods & people did buy from it If you can build the website yourself?, it does work out alot cheaper plus it pays to purchase the name for it, so no one else can use your name, that was a bit exspensive, but within about a few months or so.....it had paid for itself Depending on what you want to sell?, you could try setting up one of those free website's, to keep the cost's down & see how it goes?.........But i think it's worth giving it ago Please feel free to contact me with any questions about this. All the best, Debbie x Edited February 24, 2010 by parkash
Kevinkent Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 (edited) If your talking about vinyl, and i guess you are, then unless it's something I'm really desperate for I find it far too time consuming to trek through numerous websites. First port of call as a "browser" is this site and ebay. Same goes for the harder items 'cos it's so easy to set a search and just view the results - if I have no joy that's when it becomes a pain and I might resort to websites That said, I always view the lists from the dozen or so dealers who mail them to me - and in these cases if they're sent by email, the ones with sound clips are most useful as I'm far more likely to browse and buy, rather than just scan for my wants. Good luck. - Kev. Edited February 24, 2010 by KevinKent
Dave Thorley Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 (edited) If it is mainly to sell your own collection, then I would put the whole inventry on Gemm instead. That would get you your best results. They can take payments for you and send you consolidated payments into your bank account a few times a month, you are just left with order fullfillment. If it's to run a long term record selling business, then a site is good. But as already has been said, you need to put alot of time into it, if you want people to return time and time again. That means constant new stock, so the site looks fresh. Sounds files for nearly everything, you can never asume that people know a record, even when it seems well know to you. Easy payment method, if buying becomes a hassle for the buyer, then again they will soon stop coming to you. This is not pointed at you, but if it's an ego thing, don't bother a poor site can do you as much harm as a dealer, as good. Often regularly putting items on here can give a good level of sales. I also am happy to give any help you want, and point you in the direction of people that can help you build it and not cost an arm and leg. In the end the sites only as good as the stock on it. Unless you intend creating a site that also provides knowledge, but I would suggest that would take even more time and hard work. Hope that helps. Dave Edited February 24, 2010 by Dave Thorley
Kjw Posted February 24, 2010 Author Posted February 24, 2010 Thanks for the comments, especially yours Dave I know you advertise your site on here regularly so it helps to have some advice from someone with the experience
Guest WPaulVanDyk Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Well if you have a website there is a chance you can do a search facility so people can check for music and so on. I think given you could work on it and make it work and as said put lots of sound files up of the tracks. keep it fresh everytime and they might well check on it. I don't buy many Northern soul records online but if i did i would check ebay, gemm and other sites. maybe it could be more then just a sales site.
