Guest Karen Heath Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 This re-mastered dvd has been mentioned on here but if anyone is able to listen to Robert Elms show on BBC London, he has just announced that the director of the film, Tony Palmer, is going to speaking on his show shortly. He is currently playing 'Breaking down the walls of heartache' and will be playing more 'sounds from the era of baggy trousers and moustaches!'
Paul-s Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 apparently Palmer was a bit of an arse and pissed off everybody at the time!?
Guest Karen Heath Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 It was a pleasant enough interview with Robert Elms admitting that being a Southern soulie at the time that he saw the original footage , he didn't like it or the music at all but as time passes by, he thinks it is great. Tony Palmer sounded an amiable enough fella although I have nothing to base this on except the sound of his slightly posh voice! He said that he had received literally THOUSANDS of emails asking about the dvd and that when he showed the film up at Wigan, HUNDREDS of people had attended! He also mentioned the new film coming out and implied that the soul community was not keen on it whereas they liked his film because it was real.

Chalky Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Hi Billy, Out takes from This England definitely exist. Is that what you meant? Wasn't the music to the out takes someone elses doing, not Tony Palmers? Shame he didn't include the out-takes on the DVD.
Guest POTTERIESPECK Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 there's plenty of stuff which was edited out from the this england programme about, BUT ! someone on this board was happy to supply these rare bits of film for those who still crave to see unseen coverage from the Casino from 30 odd years ago. But there were a few who were'nt happy to let the said person do this and they had to end a great service for people wanting to own a bit of their own past. All i can say is they must have been right sad c*nts.
Tabs Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 I'm sure you are right Chalky. The music was over dubbed by others. And it would have been brilliant if the out takes had been included. Wasn't the music to the out takes someone elses doing, not Tony Palmers? Shame he didn't include the out-takes on the DVD.
Agentsmith Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 sorry to be a bore guys, but i havent seen mr, palmers film, let alone ordered it yet and im trying to impress on you all THE BIGGER PICTURE and the picture in question is lurking in someone's chest of drawers or whatever......WOULDNT YOU MUCH RATHER BE DISCUSSING IN MELVIN BRAGG STYLIE, THE MERITS OF THIS HIDDEN TREASURE BOUGHT TO LIGHT 33 YEARS LATER....or....DO YOU ALL WANT TO TURN IN YOUR GRAVES NOT KNOWING THE TRUTH.....that there REALLY was something else worth looking at?. why do you think ive been trying to impress on you all, how important it is to unlock our hidden pasts instead of picking over the bones of a carcass that was STRIPPED long ago? BLOODY WELL forget "this england" for a moment of your precious time on this planet and start searching your own closets and memory banks to reveal WHAT we dont already know!!! downright irrate, rob.h ( dont mean to be, but arent you all fed up with "SAME OLE - SAME OLE"?....I AM!!
Guest Karen Heath Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 I know than when people first heard about the big release of this dvd, it was assumed that the out-takes would be included but no, as I said, it is only 26 minutes long! I have a feeling I heard the reason why they weren't included but I'm afraid it went in one ear and out the other!
Guest Karen Heath Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 If you look HERE This England is described as the Story of Break-dancing Yes! I saw that!
