Must be the seller and a couple of mates bidding it up, no one in their right mind would pay that for a poor knocked up acetate. UK Ebay, don't you just love it.biggrin.gif

I was just about to send the guy this message:

It's just a one sided acetate someone had cut to order, they've stuck a label off another ABC release on it, it never got a UK release anyway and it wasn't even discovered until 1977! It's also got nothing to do with Motown, why would it?

It's worth less than a fiver, how you've managed to get a bid of £75 on it is just beyond belief

but I didn't send it cos I'm not in the mood for an argument this morning, my gout hurts too much LOL

if anyone else wants to send it, go ahead!

if he's had it for 20 yrs, where did he get it from? (his quote: "it seems certain it came from the US?) or words to that effect, but does not sound convincing.

What came out on 4143?

The label he has used must be a Four Tops or Lawrence Payton release as it is credited to Lawrence Payton - Producer. But I can't find out which record was ABC 4143

No it was recorded in 71 but reissued in 76 on that label Pauline.

I see the guy has now added some comments to cover his ass. He knows full well what he's doing.

On 22-Feb-10 at 13:18:58 GMT, seller added the following information:

I would like to make it clear that I am not claiming that this is a Motown Disc. I just don't know. This is just one possibility. As I have already suggested it could have been labeled by a private collector/DJ , It has also been suggested that it may have been cut by a DJ who didn't have a copy.

On 22-Feb-10 at 15:06:43 GMT, seller added the following information:

I have been told now that being drilled does not necessarily mean that it was an export and that this could well have been cut in the UK for a DJ.

I am no expert so any info is welcome. I've always thought it was an interesting record and would hate to let it go for a couple of quid, then find out it is something special. If you buy this item it is because you find it interesting or think it might be wotrh something, do some research, I am not intending to mislead in any way.

So I have sent this question to him. I know we all make mistakes, but this is what makes a mockery of the UK soul scene overseas.

"It's no good saying buyer beware, if you sell this at this price you are mugging the buyer. This is a UK cut acetate, with a home made, photo copied and tipex label. If any record company had been involved, this would have a printed label, not photo copied."

Well done Dave.

Ebay not taking any notice of reports sent to them about this item (by me), as par for the course.
