Hill868 Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 ANYONE KNOW THE STORY ABOUT THE COPIES OF 'HEAVEN IN THE AFTERNOON' (ORIG BY LEW KIRTON ON ALSTON) ON THE PAD LABEL (P120), CREDITED TO THE LOU CURTAN REVUE, AND WITH A FLIP SIDE OF 'LOVE' BY THE ROBERT WINTER BAND ? ALL THE COPIES ON PAD I'VE SEEN ARE YELLOW (AND THERE SEEMS A FEW ABOUT) - SURELY NOT THE SAME ISSUE THAT IS PRICED AT £300 IN THE ESSENTIAL NORTHERN PRICE GUIDE EDITION TWO ? WHY CHANGE THE SPELLING OF THE ARTISTS NAME - IS THIS TO AVOID PAYING SOMEONE ROYALTIES, OR SOMETHING ? ALL SUGGESTIONS / ANSWERS WELCOMED. THANKS, JEZ. SPALDING.
Mark B Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 teh lou curtan copies were carolina (bootlegs) i presume for the shag scene, the have a tendency to change the names slightly i got the lou curtan one when i bought 16 carolina's records of ebayt a few years ago, bought them for one record The Plaids ask the lonely also got another bootleg this one by willam paul (billy paul) but the other side is a female version of the sames song which is pretty good and i can find nothing about it. Mark
Benji Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 It's a boot made for the US Beach Music scene,

NEV Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 Seem to recall discussions on here a few yrs back regarding this . Think Mark has it about right but have seen silly prices and also on J Manships rarest of rare . Used to see em at $10 on ebay until someone decided they were rare What's the flip...something like Mike Mcdonald -god know's ? Why would you put that on a flip if it was original ???? Carolina shag beach scene written all over it
Hill868 Posted February 21, 2010 Author Posted February 21, 2010 IF IT'S A BOOTLEG, AND A FAIRLY AVAILABLE 45, WHY DID TIM BROWN PRICE IT AT £300 IN HIS BOOK - WAS IT THOUGHT TO BE RARE WHEN HE COMPILED HIS GUIDE ?

phillyDaveG Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 One of the few great records where the 12" version knocks the 7" into a cocked hat
Benji Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 Is it also a different cut on the lou curton ? Yes, it is an edited 12" version on the Lou Curtan side

Hi Jez , it was good to see you in Norwich last night at the Backstreet event. The Lou / lew track on Pad seems to have been a cut from the 12 '' for the beach scene then ! cheers Frank

Hill868 Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 Hello Frank, thanks for the kind hospitality over the weekend from you and your lovely girlfriend. Will be down again in the summer, with fishing rod / cider / beer / wine / brandy / tasty barbeque goodies / soulful x-over / semi-known gems / 70's soulful giants / west coast stormers / etc etc. Wonder if Tim Brown wants to buy my Lou Curtan for £200 ...then he can make £100 profit on it !!! Best, Jez.
Daddy Bones Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 An old thread, this, I know - but just saw one of these for the first time recently and was disappointed that the bootleggers hadn't gone the whole way and call the artist "Loo Curtain."
