Could be, Chalky BUT it’s pure Detroit in sound. Don’t know who the band were but it sounds like Detroit’s best players were in it.

It's pure Philadelphia ... might be influenced by the Detroit crew ... as everybody was at those times

Based on the 2 voices, I can tell that his girl was DEFINITELY  NOT L.A.'s Marsha Gee, who recorded for Capitol's Uptown Records.  I guess she was apparently an unknown singer who recorded this at Philadelphia's Virtue Studios, assuming someone found an acetate with no artist name.

But, do we even know what the real Marsha Gee's real family name was?

TBH, not a record I'd given much eartime , possibly because of its title since its' inception, back whenever!

Having said that, whilst the latter lyrics are'nt overly exceptional, the backing track has a certain something, albeit, wherever produced remains a mystery, and TBH for such "anoraks" like myself, keeps me lovingly involved with our musical phenomena.....irrespectively!
