Guest Eridu Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Any help is much appreciated as I know there are some lookalikes knocking about. As far as I can tell the labels were poorly pressed on both the real issue and the boots (?)
Guest Lobster Madras Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 (edited) Any help is much appreciated as I know there are some lookalikes knocking about. As far as I can tell the labels were poorly pressed on both the real issue and the boots (?) The original labels are shinier and the type more defined.. The vinyl is thinner on the original.. there is a defined ridge to the edge of the label on the orig too.. I've had both; still have an Original with the label pressed well off centre. raucous racket of a garage punk record.. I love it ! Edited February 16, 2010 by Lobster Madras

As far as I can tell the labels were poorly pressed on both the real issue and the boots (?) Certainly much easier to tell when holding it. Genuine article has an almost flexi-disc feel to it. Saw one go through on ebay yesterday with label well off centre, I thought it made it look doubtful but Lobster Madras has cleared that doubt up. I think the one I have has label well centred https://cgi.ebay.co.u...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT 14 Feb, 201022:22:23 GMTBid history:10 bidsWinning bid:US $195.50Approximately £124.98 went for £124 so hope it was authentic! Amazing ! seeing it go for £100 plus is a surprise. Completely unfashionable record for such a long time, couldn't give these away ! Tony Dellar used to offer his copy regularly as first prize in the dance comps at the Howard Mallett club only to have a change of heart and palm the winner off with something else back in the day !

I dug it out after hearing Mark Lamar play it a couple of years ago on his alt 60s radio show. Forgot how good it sounded. I like it. I personally think the look-like boot had something to do with its demise as a playable sound at clubs.

It got played a fair bit at the Casino but was never a "biggie" Tony got one through Mr Anderson or Richard and never really got a good reaction with it.. I'm with you; its such a powerful record; the breakdowns and slightly off kilter harmonies are brilliant..Was in the playbox last weekend for a night in Bordeaux but didn't have the guts to spin it ! Glad I got mine back in the 70's.. Would love to hear this out loud again !

Same here - £30 usually. Though it's probably gone to a psych or garage collector, I know it's been compiled, I downloaded a massive batch of psych & garage stuff and it was on there (along with the bands home town which I now forget, sorry)
George G Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Band was from the Pittsburgh area, Ideal is a label from there. Its either a Gateway or Frankford/Wayne press. Yeah, it's well known to garage collectors. I think all the originals have the off center label, but I would not claim to be definitive - George

The boot looks very close to the original.

Dave Thorley Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 (edited) Hi Guys Found one this morning, it looks like the real thing to me, but I can't find my copy to check. Off center label, but no Frankfurt Wayne stamp. I thought the boot were a brighter yellow than this. Anyone help Cheers Dave Been able to answer my own question as I have no found my original F/W pressing. The Original has all the stuff in Johns book and is a slightly brighter yellow with a strong sheen to the label. The first boot (mind unless someone heard direct from the label owner or band, who is to say, as it could have been pressed at two plants) is a slightly darker yellow and more matt, still a off centre label. Niether have Frankfurt Wayne stamps but one has F/w scratched. Now I do have a couple of Question If someone has one with a FW stamp, does that mean it was legit pressed twice ? Or does that also mean that the F/W pressing is a boot ? Here's my F/W copy to compare with the one I put up earlier Very little between them!!!!! mind the off center on the FW pressing is at the top, so to speak and at the bottom on the other.
