Great for anyone who has previously completed a beginners all-dayer or who has a little dance experience in northern. WHERE?? We should go! F--king hell, she now determines whos intermediate and advanced! 'I found some of the moves quite hard to master but I persevered and got there in the end. The spins made me dizzy but I loved it. Sharon is great and I am not just saying that! Sharon thank you for taking the fear out of dancing for me.(NP, Halifax, Beginners All-Dayer)' You just have to weep! There will be lots (maybe 10 or 11 ) of Sharon clones at this years NORTHERN SOUL events. Edited February 24, 2010 by paul-s

Guest andrew bin Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 True. Today I am clad in slimfit chino's, Panama Jack basic brown 'Chukka Boots' dark blue Smedley turtle neck sweater, and when popping out to Morrisons, I topped it off with a navy blue Baracuta G9 Harrington. A classic, cool look that never dates, and looks as good today as it did on Steve McQueen in "The Thomas Crown Affair." The problem I have with the Baggie/Circle skirt look, is that it doesn't stand the test of time. Fine when the women wearing circle skirt, ankle socks, vest etc were in their teens/twenties, but today with wearers in their 40's/50's- its like seeing your Gran in a school uniform! Very disturbing! P.S. for anyone who hasn't checked 'em out, Panama Jack's made in Spain, are a cracking pair of boots! this thread is fantastic today i'll mostly be wearing green
Mak Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 I have been known to swing my tassles at the odd Soul night! On my wedding day, i have told Ian my partner that i will be dressed as Betty Page, i love the Burlesque thing! Perhaps that's another reason i like the circle skirts.........i like a tight pulled in waist & when you spin, you flash your knickers! Debbie x Ooooh Betty

Wiggyflat Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Look lets put this to bed.....Sharon is just a tacky CD reissue.Trickster is a second issue of Keb Darge which has been licensed officially by Keb ....heres the truth https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dIISugkH0o Now Paul Sadot warned me about boots from Japan. They are hard to differentiate from the Keb original. The Keb original has a Hawaii shirt designs and jean turnups as does the Trickster second issue. These boots from Japan havent even got the hawaiian shirt logo or jean turnups. And finally a limited run of a Japanese one off press with Hawaiian shirt design.....very rare Anybody got the Hawaiian shirt issue?

Guest Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 (edited) Correct There have just been a few posts with no link to Mr Sadot's original topic whatsoever that's all. Yes, I thought that too, until I saw the reference to "Little Britain" in the title of the thread. The relevance of the other discussion about the "retro soulie scene" then became clear. Indeed, it could be argued that the two discussions are linked by their focus on caricatures of northern soul Edited February 25, 2010 by Weekend Warrior

Has he ever had a proper job or has he been dining out on Wigan for 35 years.? Never knew there was such a big demand for bootleg dj's in the uk. Certainly changed since the Wigan days then? A dj would have been thrown of the stage for playing boots. Theres a Russell brand joke that he did at NME awards event responding to Bob (the liger) Geldof....it reminds me of WINSTANLEY. Think of RW as Bob Geldof in this vid and listen to Brands final response and replace with 'Dining out for past 30 years on Wigan' Edited February 25, 2010 by paul-s

The rest of us don't, unless Russ is promoting some candle lit vigil up Station Road or an allnighter in a station waiting room or whatever, when we all get dragged in to discussing it. Sure it was an important part in the scene's history we all know that, but everyone else has moved on. Everyone. Russ is like someone who has never been able to overcome his grieiving at the passing of the Casino. And let's face it if he was interested in soul music he could have tried to have a life on the scene post Wigan. I mean he could have attended venues ,or carved out a living as a part time DJ - gone to Soul Bowl, Manship, Raistrick, Brady, Butch etc. and tried to get some decent original records to play - couldn't he? Really? Right, I am off for some dancing lessons, I feel I need them; I may be gone sometime
