Soulfulsolutions Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Can anyone shed any light on what the significance of the Kapp demo's having a Red or Black A, could it be mono / stereo? Cheers, Lee
Chalky Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 black "A" usually a boot, pink/red "A" is original.
Soulfulsolutions Posted February 13, 2010 Author Posted February 13, 2010 (edited) Chalky, that's very helpful, been doing some digging since the post, manship's guide makes reference to what you've said, had a look at some Kapp demos; Rubin, Exits, Patti & Emblems and the pink A is on all of them, only exception is September Jones & Hesitations where the A is replaced with a black star. The Exits currently on Ebay is a black A copy (jpg from ebay attached) yet it's getting some serious attention! Not forgetting what a great track it is of course. Unfortunately I can't help much, However; Here's the same one on Popsike.com PopSike.com -------------------------------------------------------------------- The following have the Red "A" and the different credit layout on the label. Soulfulsolutions Posted February 14, 2010 Author Posted February 14, 2010 Cheers Roger. There doesn't seem to be anything odd about either label, both appear genuine. I can't believe that these high end / rare Kapp recordings I mentioned suffered from being pressed. I have an Issue and a Demo copy of the Hestitations - Soul Superman album, but both have different prefixes to the album number KS 3525 indicating stereo, K 3525 indicating mono. Perhaps this was not a method used on 45's as no KS appear on any 45. Maybe there is something in the black and pink A's to suggest that's how Kapp defined mono / stereo recordings? Brunswick did it with yellow and blue labels. Lee

Guest Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 (edited) Can anyone shed any light on what the significance of the Kapp demo's having a Red or Black A, could it be mono / stereo? Cheers, Lee Kapp did both red and black A's, each release has to be evaluated on its own criteria, there is no hard and fast rule! Usually the bootlegs had a black A, as it cost more money to print a red A. Edited February 15, 2010 by Guest
