ha ha ....thats a laugh.......most dj,s (mainly soulnite, but not exclusively)....only go to their own venue and any tinpot place that asks em as long as they're djing.Their motto has always been......IF I AIN,T DJING,I AIN,T GOING........sad thing is their actual spots are the most boring and dreary unimaginative coma inducing stuff you could imagine.........sad.gif

Of course . I rarely stand behind the decks these days ( the last time was at The 2009 Torch Reunion ) , so I am usually now at a night as a punter .

I always found when i was regularly DJing , that showing your face at venues enhanced your credibility , and placed you in the shop window to be asked to DJ at that , or other venues .

As the other fella said you obviously don,t observe these things....there are dj,s where l live who also run events.......who NEVER attend any other local venue at all let alone further afield and that is mirrored right across the country......How many times have you read on this site "Looking forward to djing at your venue tonight".The said venue being open for lets say more than a year, but the said dj has not been even once as a soul loving fan for a dance and a chat at that venue. There are loads of em...T

I GET YOUR DRIFT. WHEN I WAS DJING I WENT TO AS MANY EVENTS AS I COULD. I ALSO KNOW A LOT OF DJS AND PROMOTORS WHO DO THE SAME ,I CAN ONLY SPEAK AS I FIND,AND NO BAD FEELINGS INTENDED. ATB JIM

Surely a more interesting question is if you didn't dj would you bother going out again,

Or if you do dj and you do go out do you go anywhere other than where there is a potential crowd for your own do or a potential spot??

Just a few more thoughts to help this lively debate along!

Seeing as I started it.............

I go to places that I know are gonna play off the worn out groove, to hear stuff that ain't hammered to death and is fresh to my ears.

Should I be (ever) asked to play for them, it is both an honour and a bonus.

Regards

but then how many times have you seen the plan work? more often than not in my experience .

also , do promoters go to other venues because they are interested, or just to flyer it?

Being totally honest, I only go to certain venues to flyer for my own event. And to others to hear great music and have a good time.

I've been to some great events recently though with brill tunes.

Ok then here's another one ...

Do you go to a venue just to support it , or do you need it to be good for you musically ?

well of course the music has to be up your street......you can,t just support a do coz it,s near ya....but the promoter has to be an honest injun

I GO TO A VENUE TO SUPPORT IT IF A MATE IS DJING KNOWING THE MUSIC WILL BE GOOD..... AND TO OTHER VENUES SIMPLY FOR THE MUSIC IF ITS NOT JUST OLDIES.

I Try to get to as many venues as possible whether DJing or not- enjoy the whole social event. Always good to hear what other people are playing out. Can't dance as much the older I'm getting- end up talking more! You can enjoy nites in different ways. Better always than staying in!
