Pete S Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 There's not a chance in a million that this record is worth any more than £30 in the real world, everybody had it in quantity, there must be 5000 copies in the Uk alone. People are like sheep, they can't think for themselves, look at Magicians, Johnny Howard, The Flairs...nothing oldies until Butch plays them then all of a sudden they're top dollar rarities.

I guess the old chestnut apply's here that a record is worth what someone is prepared to pay for it? don't agree with The Magicians comment though Pete, not actually an oldie as it never went that big in the first place but it is a quality record. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
Kevinkent Posted February 12, 2010 Author Posted February 12, 2010 Thanks guys, about time I had a bargain and I paid £20 for mine just a couple of years ago. I've been playing it out at every opportunity, otherwise haven't heard it much. I guess like everything it's supply and demand. Nice to know I got in early for once! THE DEALERS, YOU GOT IT, BIG BUNNY -
Mister Fish Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Bought 4 minters last year from the same supplier. Sold 3 of them for £50-£60 DOH!

Depends how you value it Pete. I was happy to pay £20 for it and would have probably gone to 3x that depending on availability. I hardly ever go by price guides, and never by whoever else is playing it, but just decide how much I rate a tune personally and then try and find it. Sometimes you've just GOT to have it I guess. - Kev Edited February 12, 2010 by KevinKent

Pete for what it's worth i fully understand where your coming from Simple fact is .it's not rare ...but because it's getting spin's ...all those who don't have one are desperate to have one . A bit like a game of musical chairs.....the records stopped and everyone's frantically desperate to get a chair However what has tickled me is there's a minter on John Manship's at £150 and most people consider John's prices top end but it's still there and shows up on gemm and musicstack so who are the silly buggers with no imagination ....outbidding each other on ebay for p.s ,well done Bickers for having the insight to put it in sales last Sunday ...a very smart move fella
NEV Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Shill bidders with multiple copy's. Someone's still gonna be buying it though Ken .....someone from the Uk

Marc Forrest Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Johnny Howard, The Flairs...nothing oldies until Butch plays them then all of a sudden they're top dollar rarities. Yes, but no, but yes...but Johnny Howard for example always was "rarer" as 45s like the Dealers. The Dealers -a great 45 no doubt- is never ever rare enough to justify anything more then 50 UKP top IMO. Even when I was young this 45 was still around in quantities and used to demand 5 UKP... Jimmy Soul Clark "Tell Her"...another timeless Rare Soul 45 that was (and to my knowledge still is) 5 UKP...wonder who will re-activate this and what price tag it will then demand LOL!

I agree with you Pete, sheep mentality. Ringleaders must be about in greater quantity than the dealers yet commands £250 every time just because it fills the floor. Who's playing this to make the price go up? I've been spinning it for a couple of years or so but I wouldn't think I have that effect on prices, probably the opposite

With respect pete - how much are you going to be putting your next copy of the Dealers up for when you get one ? It is getting in-demand innit - no doubt about that !! And there are loads of in demanders that are not really that rare that have shot right up .................... and real hard tunes that have gone through the ceiling. You would not bite your nose off on the principle that it used to go for 40 quid before it was re-discovered or whatever would you ? Just an honest question. Edited February 12, 2010 by mossy

sepia Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 think i paid £8 in 1990 & was a lot of copies then. think a guy in states has a few he was putting them up monthly last year. always started $19.99 then start price went up to $29.99 then $39.99. in the late 80s early 90s wasnt enough buyers about to command more than £10 for these types of records. but as punters have come back on the scene, they want whats hot @ the mo & most hearing for the 1st time. we had it so good in those days.lol.

We all bought Dottie and Millie on topper for 5 quid off Mick smith in the 80s - but that vanished off lists by the 90s and goes for 200 quid these days ? At least the Dealers is a good tune ! LOL

Not over £150.00 I sold it for £150.00 Pete is partly right here as my original investment on this record was nothing like that as it was a pretty easy record to obtain a bit back, if JM has 4 copies left, Mark Speakman offered one up for sale just after mine went, one on Ebay just sold well you do the math here, very much demand seems to have pushed this up over true rarity or so it would seem. OK, have you ever heard of Mick Smith, long standing record dealer and dj. I asked him this morning if he could sell me a copy of The dealers and he says what do you want that crap for, so I said was just asking, he said ok whats that, 15 quid? I said yeah, it should be. I repeat, anyone paying more than £30 for it needs to sort their life out.

I was hoping he would be back for some fun, but he is not really taking the bait today I was expecting him to post a sales list with it on for 30 quid !!!! Meanwhile...listen, let me put a scenario to you, let's say Butch decides that the next record he is going to revive will be Cut Your Motor Off by Black Nasty. All of a sudden, will it become a new top sound for everyone and jump up to a hundred quid overnight just because Butch played it? This is the problem, The Flairs, The Dealers, these are just not rare records, they may be good but they are not worth anything. So after 3 spins, Cut Your Motor Off is now worth £100 and all the divs and sheep are after a copy. Anyone with any knowledge knows it's worth no more than 10 or 15 quid. And thats why 'we' can't accept The Dealers will be anything but an around-in-quantity box filler.

(tong in cheek mate BTW) It has always been the same way on the Northern scene with DJs bringing demand / prices up hasn't it. And I do understand your view on the 45 not being that rare I suppose we just watch what happens to the availability and price of the dealers as the tune gets popular. I mean your Roy Hamilton cracking up demo is another 45 that lives on sales lists for 100 quid - there are thousands of them in this country - it just has that price cause it is a popular oldie. I am sure you would have another 100 examples It all makes for fun n games on here mind ! Best M

I've played it out pretty regular Kenny and it packed the floor at two Radcliffe nighters I've DJ'ed at!
Shsdave Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Obviously too many people about with too much money & no imagination. Same thing happened with Little Archie. I bought a mint demo couple of years ago for 20quid just before it went mad 50/60/75/100 even saw one at 150. Saw one a couple of weeks ago back down to 30 which is fairly unusual these days as it seems when a record hits that ridiculous high price it then becomes the norm.
