that is DJ ryan jackson, we both went to college together, worth checking out.

For one year there was a deep soul show right before my show, it was done by eli "the paperboy" reed actually before he had his act.

Bob, interesting thanks. If you know of any other shows on the deep and southern side of things could you please PM me the links or put them on here.

So many soul shows, especially in the more modern sub genres but seems to be hardly any Southern/Deep playing late 60's/70's and even 80' stuff.

Enjoy your shows as well by the way, great stuff.

Only critism I have, if I may from a UK view, is in the format of the shows. Not just yours but also Dark End, Finewine etc. and this may be a USA thing. I often find its a case of playing 4 or 5 tracks on the trot then telling the listener "that was blah blah, and before that blah blah, then we had blah blah". Being more used to intro, record, intro , record I sometimes find it hard keep up on what track was what.

Is there a particular reason why shows are put out that way or is just the way it is?

interesting perspective, at least on my show I actually personally find it very important to build up the idea of a "set" of songs with similar style where the songs flow well together and establish a common mood, etc. Having the DJ break into each song (or at least pause between songs) and announce it would ruin the mood for me. I have heard shows where DJs ruined the shows by not necessarily announcing the song but by playing all good songs but with 2 seconds of silence in between each song, playing songs in a poorly picked order, etc. Announcing each song before play to me is similarly jarring and undermines the DJ set. I think it's a different perspective in the UK where you're used to having the DJ announce each song after people dance to each one I guess, but I think in most DJ cultures the songs are all blended, etc. continuously. Does that make sense? I can't personally comment on how important the idea of a "set" is on Ryan's show or anyone else's but that's the idea in general I think. Thanks for the nice comments on my show btw.

Bob, I see what you're saying from a Dj's side of things, and also as you're prefered listening style. Myself, and perhaps some others, I like to hear something along the lines of "hey great sound there from Johnny Adams. Here we go with Eldridge Holmes' Decca release of A Love Problem" (never make a DJ would I). At which point my ears would prick up and think to myself "Hey, Eldridge Holmes on Decca" and have time to soak that in and know it's Eldridge Holmes as I'm listening to it instead of waiting for three more records to find out it was Eldridge Holmes. Often the case when listening to radio is the listener is listening whilst doing something else. Guess when the phone rings, yeah just as the DJ tells you what the last 4 tracks were :-(

Your show Bob you are slower than Ryan Jackson at telling the listener what was what and the listener has a chance to absorb what's being said. I taped Ryan's show last Friday and even then I found I had to rewind about four times just to take in the info as it was rattled off so fast.

Just another listeners view which I agree isn't everyones.
