Guest
1. Yes, and 2. Entertaining in places, but won't keep you up all night. For a personalised biographical account, Nightshift is much better. Link to comment Social source share
Djmelismo
Definitely worth reading IMO. Came out more than a year ago. Got it for Christmas (2009, so not even two months ago) from a family member who knew I wanted it, but remember that it was THE Christmas gift of 2008 for many people on here. If you check back there are some old threads about this book where you can get lots of information about it and people´s views on the actual content of the book. Guest Little Reg
Hi Guys Reg here, Thanks for all your interest in my book and yes i do have about six copies left. My book isn't a conouisour's book on Northern Soul music it's more about passion, life and the love of all aspects of Soul music. When i first wrote the book it was just for a few mates i was going to self publish 500 but a publisher came in for it and we have sold about 3,500 and the book is going for repress in the near future. I really had no idea this would happen. For those of you that have read my book and enjoyed the read thanks for all your wonderful reviews and for those of you who have read my book and it wasn;t quite your cup of tea thanks for giving it a go any way. I do have a web site where you can get more info about myself and the book. It's https://www.searchingforsoul.info My favourite read at the moment though i'm not an avid reader:( is Neil Rushton's Northern Soul Stories. It's an easy read:rolleyes:especially for those that struggle to read like myself as there's not a chapter more than three pages long. Thanks for your time All the best Little Reg. Anton L
All the books documenting or accounting our scene are ( like our music ) down to personal taste. I have the pleasure of knowing Reg which helps, when reading the book. Reg is a great fantastic guy with a zest for life, a passion for Soul music ( in all it's forms) and makes anyone who meets him feel at ease and welcome, his constant smile and energy is infectious. If you have Reg with you at a soul do the smile meter measures from mid to red line all night ( hate to make you blush Reg ) No big up just a general picture of him, that may help you understand his book. I found if fun to read even where Reg's and my own tastes in soul music differ, I still found it fun to read about Caister, Goldmine and alike events. this is just my view of the book others may differ. As a foot note: I happened to be at an event where Reg was selling his book, he had run to the lav, leaving me to watch his stock. Two guys walked past, one stopped to have a look, his friend said " Na wey mate it's written by a Southerner, whats he gonna' know about NORTHERN soul" I looked up to see the two guys were in their early to mid thirty's?!?! If you get to read, even the first few pages of the book you will realise what a stupid comment that was!! Link to comment Social source share

Guest NiteNurse
Hi guys, i dont come on here very often but this thread caught my eye as i have read the book in question. As pointed out earlier Searching For Soul isnt a conouisour's guide to Northern Soul, its about one mans journey through life, the music that brings him pleasure & the people he met through it . Reading the book opened up a whole new world for me, Im more of a Jazz Funkster & my knowledge about Northern Soul was limited at best. I started listening to tracks mentioned throughout the book, some i knew a lot i didnt, i loved most of them though. Thanks to Reg & his book my taste in music & knowledge continues to widen right across the soul spectrum. I now go to many different soul nights & weekenders & have met some wonderfull people along the way & personally i think thats what the book represents, how the love of music brings people together, with hundreds of people travelling across the country to these nights & weekenders for one reason, to share great music with wonderfull people, no barriers just sheer joy resulting in great memories, lets face it, it dosent get any better than that does it, next stop Prestatyn, hopefully i will see you there xx Link to comment Social source share
