urrrs Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 OK, I'm not looking to slag any DJ off here as I believe it's a bloody hard job to do on a regular basis BUT......... there are some out there on the internet shows that really need to improve!!Anyway, as I'm now in Aus and only listen at the weekend my selection might be a bit smaller tha most......... SOLAR Tony Monson - great mix and always a good show Barry James - just great feel good stuff Ash selector - Not only a great show music wise, but this man has the patter that sorts the men out from the boys..... Kev roberts - bloody good mix from Northern to Boogie As for the station, some of the shows leave me cold, but diversity needs to be part of the stations selection I suppose and SOLAR do it big timebut at our time zone some of the shows are..well $hit to be honest, but a "big up" to the fact that many of the shows are live, and if not live, only repeated ONCE a week!! Starpoint.......... Aggghhhhh.................this station just gives me the hump. They have some great DJ's and shows on, but the streaming quality is crap and some of the shows are so far behind it's not funny. Listening last weekend and I'm listenin to DJ wishing me a happy new year??If you can't get a new show recorded, then do what SOLAR do, just put on a mix of tunes on, DON"T WASTE MY DOWNLOAD LIMIT LISTENING TO THE SAME SHOWS WEEK AFTER WEEK!!! Anyway...... terry James - top show and tunes Andy Howard - again, same as the above... Sammy Sam - great show paddy Grady - don't get to hear this show often as it is not in my time zone but when I do, bloody good show. Jez Bishop - mate, a great selection of music but you really need to brush up on your presenting skills, just would be nice to hear you flow when you chat on the microphone!! Stomp............... Now for me and again the time zone I live in, this station has been a breath of fresh air. My only gripe is that a lot of the shows are not live BUT at least they are not normally more than a week old. Right, before I get slagged off here, I just want to say that I know most, if not all DJ's play for free and I do tip my hat to that, but it does get right up my goat when I tune in to hear the same show that I've heard over the last three weeks......if you can't commit to a regular spot then give it to a DJ that can? Closes the door and waits for the flak......
Guest WPaulVanDyk Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 There's other shows you can hear online and i usually listen to Andy Barnes on corby radio, Steve White on BBC Radio Sheffield and Ian Gray on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. It's hard to say which is the best though and i know if i was doing a soul show i would like it to be mixed say 3 hours or something but every week the music would be diffrent and only same tracks can be played a few months after in case of new listners

They don't allow UK land based radio stations to stream outside the UK. There are ways of hacking into these shows, via proxys etc, but the ease of tuning into Solar AND HEARING IT LIVE just can't be beaten. I gave up listening to Starpoint at the weekend, the stream would start breaking up, giving a very poor sound quaility, so I checked the website to find it just blank and unresponsive. Now this has to be the server because this is the only UK site that this fault happens with, but what gives me the real arse about it, is that it has been happening for a good few weeks now!!!

Starpoint has an embedded flash player to listen through now, which is nice if you want to get through your works firewall. This is a much better sound than you may have experienced with the Windows streaming. The studio is currently being revamped throughout, so you should see a marked difference when the work is complete.
Guest Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 I'd give Leon Brown on Gloucester FM a couple of stars at least
FrankM Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Fraser Dunn presents two hours of Soulful Allsorts live every Saturday afternoon from 2:00 till 4:00 GMT on Subcity.org The music is played mostly from vinyl and all for original sources. If you tune in live you can join in the fun with e mails or following it on Essential Modern Soul. Soulful Allsorts has another advantage over most soul shows as it has an archive of shows dating back to 2008, all with playlists and guest appearances from Keith Money, Kenny Burrell and Dave Box. Soulful Allsorts

BUT at least put this info on the website, how hard is that? Sorry, but fu*king useless gits. I can only assume from the lack of replies, is that most on this forum are budding internet radio DJ's
