Chq or Paypal best pls. Ta, MRez ***(1) 7" singles - all genres: Reuben Bell 'Making Love To Funky Music' / 'Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye' (Alarm / USA / 1977 / Ex+) *£20* ( Good double-sider on ever-reliable Reuben - topside is a chunky Funk cut which does it's job (wasn't this used on Brainfreeze or something) and the flip is a well-regarded Deep Soul cut - exemplary condition - this looks barely played...bargain, seen @ £50 on other lists - but not here... ) The Montclairs 'Hung Up On Your Love' / 'I Need You More Than Ever' (Contempo / UK / 1973 / Ex+) *£20* ( Not quite M- so priced down from £30 - hard UK press for this massive NS oldie - longer / better mix on this issue too - just wonderful...with the USA Paula issue now valued @ £100 now - £20 seems like a real bargain - and this has got a great flipside too, unlike the USA press - one of my all-time fave Northern Soul tracks - ask my wife - few scuffs / marks - plays nice... ) Linda Clifford 'Runaway Love' (Curtom / UK / 1978 / M-) *£3* ( Useful little 7" press for this guaranteed floor packer from Linda - clocks in at over 3 and a half minutes and will definitely save you lugging the 12" around... ) Freddy & The Kinfolk 'The Goat' / 'Blabbermouth' (Dade / USA / 1960s / Ex+) *£15* ( Fair price on this ever-indemand Funky R&B number with daft "goat bleats" in the backing - well, ya can't have it all ways - flip is tasty too in a kinda "Mohawks / The Champ" vein - nice 45 - few light crackles here and there so not up to a M- grade... ) Jimmy Holiday 'Poor Boy' / 'Don't Laugh' (Everest / USA / 1963 / M-) *£8* ( Worthy R&B double-sider from this stalwart singer - flip is slower and more 'churchy' - white promo copy here... ) Spencer Wiggins 'Love Machine' / 'Love Me Tonight' (Fame / USA / 1970s / Ex+) *£15* ( Cracking greazy Funk on the flip with hard, hard brass work and a plaintive, wrist-slashing Deep Soul churchie on the flip - brill little 45 - promo copy too - few surface marks here and there which don't detract...promo copy here too... ) Kim Melvin 'Doin The Popcorn' / 'Keep The Faith' (Hi / USA / 1960s / Ex+) *£15* ( Lovely (actually quite hard!) DJ copy of this ace femme-vox'd Mod dancer - ace Hammonds splashed all over this... ) Runette Roberts 'She Didn't Know' / 'Inst' (ICA / USA / 1977 / Ex+) *£20* ( Another unusual record and one that is hard to pigeonhole - it has elements of Deep Soul but also has Moog parts and synthesiser splashes all through - the flip is not actually completely instrumental and has some vocal parts and works better for me because the instrumentation is more at the forefront - nice 45... ) Count Sidney & His Dukes 'Feel Delicious' / 'The Grandpa' (Goldband / USA / 1960s / Ex+) *£15* ( I've had a good few of this guy's records now and they've all been good - this one is no exception - hard brass and heavy organ sounds - seems to be a bit of a sleeper...anyways, very, very worthy... ) Joe Frazier 'Try It Again' (JoBo / USA /1960s / Ex+) *£25* ( Dunno if this is actually the boxer, Joe Frazier, himself on vocals here? Guess it must be - the label 'Jo(e) Bo(xer)' is a big clue - it's actually a very decent stab at a Funk side - produced Richard Rome and written by Bobby Byrd - looks kinda obscure / rare...good condition - light scuffs, nuttin major.... ) Richard Fudoli 'Gweee' / 'Bossa Nova Jumpin Bean' (Maestro / USA / 1960s / VG+) *£10* ( Wonderful little flute-y / Latin / Mod track - totally recommended for the DJs out there - better version / pressing to the Date issue in my book too - this one's a bit crackly so priced accordingly - would be £20 / £25 if one grade better... ) Tommy Ridgley 'Boogie Train' / She Turns Me On' (Maison Soul / USA / 1986 / Ex+) *£5* ( Later release on Tommy but still very, very listenable - chunky little Disco/Boogie cut which has some decent brass and a few nice keyboard splashes - reminds me a bit of a 1980's version of The O'Jays 'Love Train'... ) Doris Troy 'I'll Do Anything' / 'But I Love Him' (Mojo / UK / 1965 / Ex+) *£15* ( Tough UK press for this NS classic double-sider from Doris - this is the 1971 press of the 1965 original - came out on Cameo-Parkway in the States / UK - simply gorgeous black music - the best double-sider on the whole List - original middle is dinked but vinyl is lovely and original custom bag is present too... ) Yambu 'Sunny' / 'Caballo' (Montuno / USA / 1975 / Ex+) *£5* ( Nice Latin/Disco version of this classic as produced by Milton Hamilton and comped by Dr Bob Jones a while back too.... ) The Soul-Ins / The Love Kittens 'Soul In Pt 1' / 'Keep It Up' (Mos-Ley / USA / 1960s / Ex+) *£10* ( Unusual to have a US 7" feature 2 different artists on one 7" - normally done only on Jamaican stuff - this one's a goodie - topside is a tuffer Funk inst while the flip is more of a Sister Funk vocal track with lovely harmonies a la The Lovelites on 20th Century etc etc - nice to get two good tracks from different artists on one 7"... ) Joe Perkins 'Looking For A Woman' / 'Wrapped Up In Your Love' (Plush / USA / 1970s / M-) *£15* ( Lovely copy of this nice double-sider from Joe - as with most of his releases, there's an uptempo side and a slower side - 'Looking For A Woman' is the funky side in a 'Cajun' style - nice and sleazy - while the Deep flip is also well-regarded - seen @ £35 on another list only last week... ) Flame 'N' King and the Pazant Bros 'Brandyfoot' / 'Human' (P.M.P / USA / 1984 / Ex+) *£20* ( New one on me? I know both these band's earleir work very well but I had no idea they'd ever actually worked together? I'm guessing Flame N King provide the vox and the Pazant Bros are on the backing? Strange record with strong P-Funk leanings and the most bizarre lyrics I've heard in many a day. It's actually a good Boogie tune when the singer keeps quiet - not for the faint-hearted...!!! ) Ambelique 'Talk Like That' / 'Version' (Rag Town / Jamaica / 1980s / M-) *£30* ( Not Reggae at all - more like a fusion of Jazz / Soul / Funk / Boogie - this is actually a version of Sly Stone's 'Family Affair' which was really, really big a few years back on the UK soul scene and all over Europe - even the reissue 7" is making £10 all day on eBay now - beautiful, beautiful grooves - if you like stuff like AJ Brown 'Making Love Together' - I guarantee you'll like this too - 100% clean... ) For Real 'Like I Do' (Rowdy / Jamaica / 1970s / Ex+) *£5* ( Sorry - this is SO obscure that I've been unable to dig up much on it at all - all I can tell you is that it's a lovely, female vocal version of the H-D-H song and bops along really, really well - a fiver well-spent... ) Hank Johnson / Gene Anderson 'You Lost Your Thing' / 'The Gigolo' (Sex Machine / USA / 2004 / M-) *£5* ( Loudly cut reissue of these two very expensive Deep Funk tracks... ) The Ad Libs 'Appreciation' (Share / USA / 1960s / Ex+) *£5* ( All-time classic Northern Soul at a very fair price...labels flipped like all copies... ) Hokis Pokis 'Swing' / 'Get Cha Girl' (Shield / USA / 1976 / Ex+) *£20* ( For me - this is as good, if not better than their more well-known 'Nowhere' tune (which Kenny Dope has rinsed) Both sides here are "spacey disco" par-excellence which more than likely were first spun @ Blackpool Mecca by Levine / Curtis - off key vocals and swirling 'wrong' keys all-over the shop - just how we like it - my first-ever copy...loving this.....treat yourself...love the lead singers deep voice - lower than a snake's belly... ) Charles Lattimore 'Do The Thing' / 'We Try Harder' (Shout / USA / 1970s / M-) *£10* ( Surprisingly good Funk side/s - topside is upbeat and banging while flip is slower and more 'considered' - 99% unplayed.... ) Gil Scott-Heron & Brain Jackson 'The Bottle' (Strata-East/Snow / Belgium / 1970s / Ex/Ex+) *£20* ( Unusual issue for this amazing tune on GSH and BJ - never seen it on Euro 7" before? I do know that it was never released in the USA on 7" - lovely copy too - light wear to the bag but the wax is clean - loveit-loveit-loveit... ) Leon Thomas 'Tonight' / 'Leon's Blues' (Sunshine / USA / 1977 / M-) *£5* ( Later release from "Mr Yodel" - topside is a kinda uplifting 'disco gravy train' lash-up while the flip is more akin to his earlier work on Flying Dutchman - a fiver.......... ) Willis Jackson 'Swimmin Home Baby' (Verve / USA / 1960s / VG) *£8* ( Shame! This copy just *isn't* clean - and it's a yellow promo too - plays good but looks bad so has to be downgraded - it's actually a version of Mel Torme's 'Comin Home Baby' that just rocks on and wigs OUT...if this was clean, I'd be asking £25 / £30 - believe me, a superb record... ) Various Artists 'Explosivos Box Set' (Vampisoul / USA / 2003 / M-/M-) *£50* ( 20 classic Latin Soul / Funk/Jazz / Disco sides here people on 10 x 7" singles - all in a beautiful box set - including Bobby Valentin 'Use It Before You Lose It', Harvey Averne 'Stand', Chollo Rivera 'Latin Soul Is Here' + loads more - 20 excellent tracks in total - a joy to have all of these in one place - these 10 records are all unplayed - bought at time of release as an investment and immediately filed away...works out to £5 per 7" - great value... ) ***(2) 12" singles - all genres Ramona Brooks 'I Don't Want You Back' / 'Inst' (Q / USA / 1980 / M-) *£40* ( All-time killer Boogie 12" - much-imitated, rarely bettered - this copy is as clean as any I've ever had / seen...stunning vocals and a bassline as deep as it gets.......... ) Jenny Burton 'Bad Habits' (Atlantic / USA / 1985 / M-) *£8* ( Fantastic Soulful-Boogie cut - remember this being a biggie in NYC when I was a regular there in the early-90s...stone minter... ) Direct Current 'Everybody Here Must Party' / 'Inst' (TEC / USA / 1970s / M-) *£20* ( Selling this nice at a nice price kids - I got £50 for one last year BUT am able to let this one go through a bit cheaper - bassline and drums from here were lifted by Lady B for the indemand, old school Hip Hop 12" 'To The Beat, Y'All'- great, great backing track... ) The Fantastic Aleems 'Hooked On Your Love' / 'Dub' (Nia / USA / 1979 / Ex+) *£25* ( 100% M- copy of this all-time *classic* (sorry!) N.Y.C. Boogie / Disco cut from those amazingly inventive Aleem brothers - ably assisted by my friend and yours, Leroy Burgess........mixed by John Morales... ) Fresh Band 'Come Back Lover' / 'Dub' (Are N'Bee / USA / 1984 / Ex+) *£15* ( Great Disco / Boogie piece - very fair price here for a 99% clean record - tuff Dub mix on flip...Mixed by Tony Humphries...Produced by Daryl Gibbs...what more d'ya want? ) Fussy Cussy 'Like Lovers Do' (long/short) (Scorpio / Canada / 1970s / M-/M-) *£50* ( Wow - rare, rare, RARE!! Head about this one in "hushed tones" before now but never actually managed to get one in stock till now...where to start? Just a sublime, floating, gorgeous slice of irresistable Modern Soul which has strong shades of Marvin Gaye's 'What's Going On' and is so, so infectious my head is still sinning after listening to it all thru earlier when recording an mp3........99% unplayed and still in it's shrinkwrap - I KNOW this once sold @ £200 - makes my £50 a very, very fair price - the race is on... ) Lemelle 'You Got Something Special' / 'Inst' (Leviticus / USA / 1982 / M-) *£15* ( Ruffhouse Disco/Boogie choon - nice to be able to offer this again cos it flew out when I listed it last year...nicely paced at 120 BPM for us oldies to shuffle along to... ) Mary Mundy 'Love Me, Love Me' / 'Inst' (Image / USA / 1980 / M-) *£20* ( Cracking 12" from MM - as sampled by Bucketheads on 'These Sounds'...stone mint apart from a very, very slight warp which is almost unnoticeable....like this...a lot... ) Rhyze 'Just How Sweet Is Your Love' / 'I Found Love In You' (Sam / 1980 / USA / Ex+) *£10* ( Nuther nice white promo copy - 2 more big and bold Boogie / Disco cuts...set at about 118 BPM... ) Unlimited Touch 'Searching To Find The One' / 'Carry On' (Prelude / USA / 1981 / Ex+) *£40* ( Yet another rare white promo press 12" from Mark Rez this list - this one is a BEAST to source - Francois K on the mix and so, so tuff to find on 12" promo, believe me..... ) ***(3) LPs - all genres Della Reese 'One More Time!' (HMV / UK / 1967 / Ex+/Ex+) *£20* ( Lovely, lovely copy of this currently much-indemand LP on Della for the wonderful cut 'It Was A Very Good Year'...barely a mark on this... ) Benny Gordon & The Soul Brothers 'Tighten Up' (Hot Biscuit / USA / 1960s / Ex+/M-) *£60* ( Always been hard, hard to find this clean in the USA - again - I rarely see it nowadays - this copy is pristine...'Tighten Up' is the hit but we also get 'Papa's Got A Brand New Bag' , 'Soul At Sunrise' , 'Soul Theme' etc etc - good, solid black music LP... ) Weldon Irvine 'Cosmic Vortex' (RCA / USA / 1974 / M-/M-) *£40* ( 'Walk That Walk, Talk That Talk' , 'Cosmic Vortex' , 'Love Your Brother' etc etc - beautiful copy, I'd say it was actually unplayed...you'll be very happy if you take it - I see this LP still making close to $100 on eBay all of the time so grab yaself a bargain.... ) King Herbert and the Knights ' King Herbert and the Knights with Jack Harden' (Paragon / Canada / 1960s / Ex+/M-) *£300* ( GRAIL TIME!! This is definitely one of THE rarest Soul / Funk records EVER to come out of Canada - ask Gerald from Jazzman Records - he'll tell you how long it took him to dig up a clean copy of this all of those tears ago - and it ain't getting any easier...as stated previously, this isn't something you just buy on a whim, you have to want it so I won't go too long into detailed reviews here - suffice to say this is super clean, has been correctly stored by the previous owner and is about as good as it gets...tracks include 'Sissy Strut' , 'Ooga Boogaloo' , 'Chicken Strut' , 'Ode To Billy Joe' , 'Sing A Simple Song' etc etc... ) The Majestics 'A Tribute Otis Redding' (Arc / Canada / 1960s / Ex+/M-) *£40* ( All Majestics LPs are cool - this one ain't the rarest but it's a goodie too - 'Respect' , 'Mr Pitiful' , 'Satisfaction' , 'Security' etc etc - beautiful shape and a solid Soul / Funk LP... ) Aubrey Mann 'Tribute To The Man' (Scorpio / Canada / 1980 / VG/M-) *£10* ( Must say the sleeve is tatty here - ok? Corners are well worn etc etc - seems this guy did an Otis Redding tribute show and took his chances to put his stage show onto vinyl? Mainly slow / deep stuff here like 'Pain In My Heart' , 'I've Been Loving You Too Long' , 'A Change Is Gonna Come' etc etc but all very well done... ) Billy Martin 'Strawberry Soul' (Trans-World / Canada / 1970s / Ex+/M-) *£150* ( I just checked my archive and I last had this for sale in 2003.......!! That copy went for £250 - sure - the price has dropped a bit since then but this remains a killer and extremely rare Soul/Funk set - 'Stax' , 'Funky Feeling' , 'Egg Roll' , 'Phillie Dog' , 'Watermelon Man' etc - so good! Condition is exemplary...again, this LP has been well-looked after... ) Rayfield Reid & The Magnificents 'Treat You Right' (Ken-Tone / USA / 1970s / Ex+/M-) *£150* ( Again - I defy anybody to find fault with the condition of this record - it appears as if pressed yesterday...fantastic "pimp" sleeve too - so many great Soul / Funk cuts - Stick Shift Pts 1 & 2' , 'Dynamite Party' , 'Treat You Right' , 'My Love Keeps On Growing' etc etc - all tracks are worth checking - just a peach... ) The Sorokas Band 'Sorokas' (Sorokas / USA / 1986 / M-/M-) *£50* ( Again - 100% pristine condition and I doubt this has even been played more than once or twice - always a good demand on this Modern Soul LP - loadsa nice tracks - slow, midtemp, dancers like 'Think About It' , 'Where Would I Be' , 'It's Going On' etc etc - takes me back.... ) Sunny & The Sunliners 'This Is My Band' (Key-Loc / USA / 1960s / Ex/Ex+) *£75* ( Very rare Texan Funk / Soul LP - I believe 'Soul Power' from made it onto one of those early 'Pure' comps which were highly influential? So many goodies here like 'The Thing' , 'Grazing In The Grass' , ' The Horse' etc etc - lovely condition too - mild wear here and there to the sleeve but the vinyl is clean as a whistle... ) Velvet Hammer 'Call Me!' (Soozi / USA / 1977 / Ex/M-) *£75* ( Tuff Disco/Soul/Funk LP outta Chicago - priced down from £100 cos there's a bit of 'wear and tear' to the sleeve - just ringwear mainly but it's kinda noticeable - 'Party Hardy' is the big track here but 'Call Me' is also nice and sleazy and 'Happy' was, of course, the big Northern hit... Rare LP!! Second-ever copy for me - never, ever seen this sleeve issue one before now? There's also a completely brilliant 2 Step track here called 'Impossible' which is known to only a few this is the 'red' sleeve issue - superb Windy City Disco/Soul....clean, promo vinyl copy... ) Chano Scotty 'Favoritos Bailables' (Musicor / USA / 1967 / Ex+/Ex+) *£30* ( Exemplary condition here - barely a mark on record or sleeve - believe me...it's worth the cash for the psychedelic cover art alone - it truly is "messed up"...music is good too - 'Estamos Ai' , 'Boogaloo No 2' , 'Vanidad' , 'Boogaloo No 1' , 'Ultimo Adios' , 'Chano's Boogaloo' etc etc - lotta bang for your buck if ya take this... ) Chano Scotty 'The New Sound Of Chano Scotty' (Musicor / USA / 1967 / Ex/M-) *£25* ( No psyche artwork on this one and the bottom seam has a 3" split so graded down a bit - 'Bossa A-Go-Go' is great on here - bouncing club titty-shaker track - real, real nice... ) The TNT Band 'TNT = Dynamite' (Cotique / USA / 1960s / VG+/Ex+) *£30* ( Creeping up indemand again - price is pushing $100 elsewhere - great LP from Tito and Tony - several good Latin Funk/Soul tracks - 'Mr Slick' , 'Descarga TNT' etc - sleeve is a bit rough with a bit of tape here and there but vinyl is clean as a whistle... ) That's all folks........cheers...Mark Rez Edited March 1, 2010 by Guest
