Henry Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Mixed Emotions - Gold Of My Life - Rock-Way Could someone please give me some definite info on what is a real copy of this. I know there have been different re-issues (naughtily/misleadingly termed as 'original recordings' !!!) of it but am now getting confused with what is real and not. Must be an age thing!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Tricky Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Without having my copy in front of me,if i remember rightly original is off white label.Vinyl with address on label.

Jason S Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Reissues have the Engineer's name : Fred Carfagna on the label under the Artist/Title credits, originals don't (though sure someone on here said they have an OG with the engineer's name on the label.) Elijah Cole repressed them with the Engineer's name a few years ago...should be able to get one for $20 on ebay. He insisted that all issues prior to him repressing them in about 2004/05 ish were bootlegs because (quote) 'I hadn't released it'...even though he pressed them in the 70's and gave them out as promo's. The boot he was refering too, done by EMI, turns out to be the German release which apprently he hadn't consented to.

Jason S Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Ah, sorry - from memory thought it was German

Hello all.......... just a personal observation to add, sorry Henry , even more confusion Ive just read the previous link to the last time this was discussed, this scan appeared halfway down the thread........... Going back a few years, before i got my computer i used to get my best mate Binsy to post put some things up on ebay that i wanted to get shot of and, also, some people ,particularly from the Continent used to send wants lists to him[which he`d then forward to me to look at]. Mixed Emotions was on one, i wasnt bothered about it, having purchased my copy many years before from John Anderson at Soul Bowl. So i sold it for[i think] £100.......... Yeah, i know, not one of my better moves...... Anyway, to add insult to injury the buyer[i think from Sweden if my memory is correct] contacted binsy and said the record was a counterfeit. I assured him it was the real thing, told him id bought it before there was any demand[in fact, even at the time i sold it there was no demand so why bootleg it ?] and told him where i`d purchased it.This seemed to persuade him i was telling the truth which i was..[Oh how i wish h`ed sent it back now ! ].... A couple of years after this, another good friend of mine sold up some pieces on ebay one of which was the Mixed Emotions 45,an identical copy to the scan above [right down to the identical green sticker in the same place] which was posted up by Cristian on the last thread about this 45[link on above post]......Im pretty sure that was my mates old copy. I wonder ? The thing is,i went round to his place before he put them up on ebay and i thought at the time this looked like a counterfeit copy because the printing quality and paper used for the label just didnt look anything like my Soul Bowl original copy. My mate though, assured me he`d had his copy since the early 80`s or before....... Now i know that scans are notoriously unreliable but in this case if you look at the label you can clearly see the paper is almost quite see through. And very white...... My copy wasnt like that, even though bought as a brand new copy, looking slightly more off-white and having much sharper printed lettering on the label .......The paper label seemed to be less see through as well.......... So maybe it was copied or bootlegged before old Elijah tried to claw back some of his long lost revenue by re pressing some copies............ Another mystery........ I actually prefer the other release that he put out a few years ago "Am I Imposing",for anyone who hasnt heard that it comes highly recommended from yours truly.......And reasonably priced too. Unlike "Gold Of My Life."........ Good Luck Henry Best, Ivor Edited January 26, 2010 by Ivor Jones

Sunnysoul Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 (edited) Uh oh ... here we go again ... https://cgi.ebay.com/...=item439d1504e2 Seller says it's an original however the arranger's name is clearly shown underneath the artist's name. Interesting though that the seller supports his assertion that it is an original by making specific reference to the deadwax markings , something which none of the previous threads on Soul Source to my knowledge have ever mentioned.
