dthedrug Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 (edited) Hi All, Can someone clarify this question as up until 1 hour ago I had never noticed this issue, Early ATLANTICS used to be on the London Label & the London Label acknowledged that on the label hence LONDON-ATLANTIC. In 64 Atlantic as a label in it,s own right started with #4001 the Drifters "Under the Boardwalk" - #402 Bobby Darin - #4003 the SKA Kings "Oil in my lamp" c/w "Jamaica SKA" - #4004 Solomon Burke "Every Body". My question is about the DEMOS of these records< as #4004 is a Yellow DECCA type ATLANTIC DEMO, but #4003 is a LONDON-AMERICAN DECCCA type DEMO? as I do not have #4001/2 could any one explain (a) are they on LONDON-ATLANTIC or ATLANTIC, ( Why such a big company like DECCA who issued many hundreds of DEMOS did not get a new label together at the launch? and © Why or how come there are so many anomalies on both labels ie: Lou Johnson DEMO London/Monument, Ben E King Atlantic #4065 Test Pressing??? DAVE KILQ: WHAT IS THE THIRD LETTER OF THE ALPHABET? Is (a) B,(b)C,or © A Edited January 25, 2010 by dthedrug

DAVE KILQ: WHAT IS THE THIRD LETTER OF THE ALPHABET? Is (a) B,(b)C,or © A AT 4001 and 4002 are both 'London Atlantic' on yellow demos, Dave. I have both somewhere in the mess upstairs.... Don't have 4003 on a demo, I wouldn't mind having it though! The stock copies of AT 4001-4003 all came out on the same day. I'd guess that the demos were all sevriced on the same day, too - a couple of weeks upfront of the stock copies - and that they just didn't have yellow labels ready in time for the demos to be pressed. I've never seen either the Lou Johnson London/Monument or the BEK TP, but there are other examples of London demos being different to the releases. I used to have the Drifters' "I Count The Tears" on a demo with "Suddenly There's A Valley" on the other side. The stock copy has "Tears" coupled with "Sadie My Lady"....
