Guest tomaokeh
We have all had top sounds in our collection that we have memories of that were destroyed for example I bought a copy of the O'JAYS i dig your act. Back in 1977, ok it was only £1.50 in the the Casino recrord bar, thanks for my mates advice Mr Manus Docherty the first sound i ever bought at Wigan, I pulled it out of my collection over the xmas and was cracked. God you can emagine I was totally gutted as it was the first record I ever bought at wigan casino! I bought another copy exactly the same and the same label 33 years later and kept it ever since!! Have anyone lost any rare or dear memories? Link to comment Social source share
Mick Howard
Toma I bought Stay by the Virginia Wolves back in the 70's (alright, in hindsight it's a pretty rotten tune but it was a long time ago and I was very 'green') and when I got it out of the sleeve to show my mate, for some unexplainable reason I snapped it fully in half - oh how my heart sank at that very moment. Mick P.S. How come you didn't come up to my BBQ last summer? Link to comment Social source share

A couple of weeks after doing so , I was DJing , and had it cued up on the deck ready for playing . A blocked up youth came up to ask for a request , and dropped the lit cig he had in his fingers onto the grooves of the record . I screamed like a banshee at him , and frantically brushed the cig off ....... but the damage was done , for it had burnt it . Malc Burton Link to comment Social source share
Steve Myers
Sometime in the mid 70s I had a copy of Backfield in motion, Mel & Tim (Now theres one you dont hear now) I had agreed to swap it with a local DJ for, Thank you baby, Soul Brothers Six. On my way down the attic stairs of the flat I lived in it rolled out of the sleeve and hit the stair tread and chipped a perfect semi circle about an inch in to the grooves. Needless to say I didnt do the swop, and still to this day dont own the Soul Brothers Six, although I have still got the Mel & Tim Link to comment Social source share

Northern Soul Uk
THIS BROUGHT BACK A BAD MEMORY FOR ME. Wigan casino, Mid 70s, bought 3 records inside the club, and cos I didn't want to carry them round all night, I thought it was a "good idea" to put them in the car. Not wanting them to be on show in the car, I thought it would be a '"good idea" to put them in the boot. Well! how was i to know that the next day would be the hottest on record? Yeah you've guessed it, went to get them out next morning after taking a dip in the swimming pool, and the bloody things had all warped to hell I can't and don't want to remember what records they were, all I know is that i spent all my money that I had on them. BOOHOO!! GUTTED! Link to comment Social source share

Have anyone lost any rare or dear memories? had a uk demo of ray pollard "aint that a sad thing" with no middle, scoured bag of records in attic and found a 60's pop record on coloumbia which just so happened to be a red and white demo....with a removeable middle...which i did...i then proceeded to attempt to glue it in with superglue, a side up....and in the process spilt some glue on the vinyl....OH DEAR!! tried to remove it with acetone but it dug a hole in the vinyl like a navvy diggin up tarmac!! rob.h Link to comment Social source share

However when I got it back it was F**ked, to be fair my mate ended up paying for it. B.T.W. This was about 20 years ago. Funky 4 Corners
Woke up late one Sunday morning after a house party I had in Sittingbourne and looked in the front room. The night before, pissed, I had put several UK Sue 45s on top of a gas fire after playing them and it was obviously hot as they were all melted, hanging over the front. Afterwards as I was cleaning it a big chunk of the record broke off . Luckily I was able to replace it quickly , can only say it's a good job it wasn't Dynamite Exploded Link to comment Social source share

Guest marge
Jim I'm sorry. That record you bought at Cleethorpes and were raving about it fell out the car door, honest... is this the confession thread? I'd tell you what the record is but head, buried, sand are words that spring to mind. My bad. But in my defense I was not the one who opened the car door with complete abandon!!! As YOU do (and did), so if you're wondering me 'ole mucker, you broke the F*cker (poet or what?) in the interests of public concern no Carstairs were smashed by Thomas the tank engines in the making of this story... (sorry to go on random tangent but, Pete S... that thread made me laugh) Link to comment Social source share

Our lad came in from work and plonked his backside down to take his working boots of and...........CRACK!!!!! The record was My Elusive Dreams - Moses and Joshua Dillard. Fortunately I had a reissue on Mojo in my box too!!! PHEW!!!!!!!!!!! Link to comment Social source share

When tony coleby was selling his detroit collection in the late 70`s early 80`s i bought his al williams white demo for the magnificent sum of £35, my younger brother who was just getting into the scene, used to pick the lock on my redcord box while i was out, and stood on my al williams cracking it in half its now in a frame on the wall Link to comment Social source share

Malc Burton is there some some of order of disgrace? mate or yourself having accidental 'shoulda taken more care' episode with yours/ my records while in me car / garage / living room party and then those that spill beer / burn fag holes over the DJ's records, the latter of which seem more avoidable. Maybe it's my naivety but do folk really hang fags / beers over DJ's records while they are on the decks? Link to comment Social source share
