Hiya, yes the String of Beads certainly stands out as I was there for the allnighter when it was raided and closed down! Could probably check the date of that from newspaper archives, somone should start a database eg clubs, dates, dj's, records, owners, punters etc now there's a project for somone who doesn't get out much! Still it would make fascinating reading. Regret I never got to the Wheel in the 60's, so just had to make the pilgrimage last year. The only song I remember from Jimmy Cliff was King of Kings raw ska but must have liked it as a West Indian friend found a copy for me, Plebs was a fairly multi racial club, unusual back then.

That'd be Steve Simpson, who used to go to Yate. Mark spins tunes on the scene to this day, mainly 'modern'. Think he did Cleethorpes a few years back

My first allnighter was Wigan Casino in September 1976 - it was also Mo's and Mark's first - we went up on the train from Cheltenham. You told us you'd been once before, so I'm surprised that you waited as long as 2 or 3 years to go again!.

Chris was 14 or 15 in 1973 - must have been cool to have a car and drive all the way to Wigan and back to Cirencester at that age.

I suggest that you phone the Bomberos down at Alicante Fire Station and ask them to come round and put your pants out!

Gibby used to cart a Transit load of us over there from Wilby.

I dont know if were first record I heard but Monkey Time - Major Lance is the stand out track from then, along with She Blew a good thing - the Poets (still have my US Symbol copy )

BARGAIN - a night to remember.

Nice one I shall raise my titfer respect, I never got to Sheffield until the 7ts and Samantha's John (BOY) Vincent, one of the very best venues off all time, so Was the Mojo by all accounts the question is what makes a venue great like both those mentioned it cant be a people thing or even a DJ thing Like the Torch 10 what was the magic formula that makes a good night special, I remember thinking this at Wigan when Jr Walker was on to others it was the night Betty Right was on and again unplanned and ad hoc Major Lance dueting with Tommy Hunt now that's a tape I would like to hear

Same here. Earls Barton Dog Track (Northants) after a night at the George, in '68 or '69.

Help Me - Spellbinders, and I've Been Hurt - Bill Deal & The Rhondels come to mind but I might be making it up.

I found out later why a lot of people would not talk to me at first.

it was because i was a bit older than the norm,they thought i was the plain clothes drug squad.

First record i heard was Patti LaBelle & The Bluebelles - Loving Rules.

Sadly i dont think this gets played anywhere anymore,its rather a forgotten oldie.
