Debbie, I think the young man in the waistcoat is soul-source member Brian Jolley.

Yes that's definitely me.

It was taken in '73 outside my parents house when I was 18.

The trousers were 28" waist with 42" bottoms from Jackson's the tailors.

I can't remember the price though.

This one was taken by Mike Walker (Casino manager) in his office

to promote the Casino t-shirts and holdalls.

Unfortunately he never got any more made, so they never hit the scene.

Give over, you're making me blush! :thumbup:wink.gif

I've always tried to be different Debbie, as those who know me will testify.

The pockets on the side of the trousers, that came synonimous with the scene,

were an idea of mine and one of the reasons I had that particular photo taken,

to show them off.

I had never seen the side pockets before on the trousers, i think its good to add your own touch to something, i like to do that myself

But you dont see anyone wearing the high waist styles on the bags today, i always think its very flattering on men & women good.gif

I would say, you were the best dressed chap on the scene, sorry to make you blush again! blush.gif

I must ask!.......Have you kept any of your original clothing?

Unfortunately not, although I still greatly love style and individualism.

My fondest style has always been from the 30s and 40's eras and I like wearing

it when I get the chance, especially at soul nights.

The majority of my clothes are sourced from charity shops, although I buy my fedoras

from America.

The last 3 years though I've been into scootering and unfortunately that style

just doesn't fit right, :shhh: so I now sport more of a mod/skinhead look as every day dress.

At least I don't need to get a shaved parting as I already have a 6" centre one.

I like most vintage style of dress, i used to go to some 40s Lindy & Swing nights, as i like the dancing, but when i had my old 20s & 30s cars, i used to dress 20s & 30s, with a Louise Brooks type bob, which also fit a bit of a 60s mod look.

But now my hair is quite long, with a short fringe, as i like the Betty Page style, im still spinning in circle skirts at soul nights laugh.gif , but i do like to add my own style to them :wicked:

Its been lovely chatting on here to you, & like i said before, if you see us about, please come over & say hi

Alot of soulies wore trousers with the pockets on the side.

alot of highstreet shops sold them. we used to get them from C and A they were called Birmingham bags.

I had a black pair ,a beige pair and a pale grey pair....and they were high waisters.(they cost something between £8-£10 if i remember right)

90% of soulies who wore baggies had these when they came out and they were very popular at the time.

even "historians" learn something new every day ! LOL

Susan,

Have you got any photo's of you wearing the trousers?, it would be nice to see the designs good.gif

Old Historians do have alot to remember :) you try remembering all the styles & designs from the 1600s to the 1970s

I have given sooo many lectures, my poor brain gets a bit fried

What i meant was, you did not see chaps wearing this style in London  so it may of been more popular up North.

Some of the chaps in London would wear the 1930s American trousers called Oxford Bags, or they would just have them made by Spencers.

Brian, C & A have pinched your design, but i bet they did not do it as good! :g:

I suppose it's like anything, if it becomes fashionable someone will always copy it,

although I didn't realise they were selling them in C&A as all the ones I saw

seemed to be bespoke.

I do have to agree with you Brian,if someone starts a new trend,as you yourself did,its bound to catch on at some point.

However, the leg pockets on mine(from C&A) were slightly larger than yours, more like what you would get on army trousers....the ones on your trousers are alot nicer...

I too like individuality.Theres a young lady and her friend on another thread somewhere on soul source who

had a 4panel two colour skirt,I had a 6 panel

two colour skirt. fashion statements were a big thing in those days especially on the scene.(alot seemed to be focused on jacket vents, jacket pockets and pocket flaps on the baggies).

well you look great on your pic,do you have any others in your soul stuff we could have a look at?

https://www.youtube.c...h?v=di02cko2SMM

Great to see that, I thought none of the footage existed. Anm old mate of mine was in there, the girl in the yellow vest & pigtails is Anne Rogers from Shevington. & Kipper Rimmer from Newton Le Willows was in there somewhere!

Thanks for the comments on the photo. :hatsoff2:

Unfortunately most of my old photos' were destroyed in a house fire.

I used to take loads of Polaroid shots at the Casino but then I used to

sell them to the people I'd taken the picture of for pennies.

PS: Just came across this site I thought might interest you and Debbie.

You may already have seen it.

As far as aware, this is the only footage showing Jethro Dancing (red and white striped top). Don't know where it originally came from. The TOTP Footsee footage was lost/destroyed some years ago, hence its non-appearance on TOTP2.
