Soulfulsolutions Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 I've had a handful of 60's USA radio station survey charts for some time. These charts were drawn up as a result of weekly record sales in particular areas. 2 are particular interest because of specific entries, whilst the others give a clear picture of how well many Soul records actually did against the more commercially vaible pop hits of the day. The 2 that cause me most interest as far as I can work out come from the Michigan area although an internet search shows one radio stations registered in San Antonio, Texas, but the adverts on the back refer to Ann Arbor, Michigan. The other crops up in post on the Soulful Detroit website. The first WOIA dated 4 November 1967 has an entry at No33 - Nabay- Believe it or not. WOW! How amazing that a 45 of such rarity created enough sales to hit the charts in a relatively high position, yet remains so hard to find. On the same chart at No5, Robert Knight - Everlasting love, plenty of them about as are the Flaming Embers - Hey mama, at No4. Incidentally the Who are No1. Of course the survey is local to Detriot home of the Impact label came from. The second WSID which I work out to be Jan 1965(?) as the Temps reached No1 with My Girl, has an entry at No43, Leroy Taylor - Taking my time - SHRINE. Not bad for a Washington DC label. On this particular chart it is all Soul, which may have aided Leroy to such a lofty position. I wonder how welcome this was to Berry Gordy in the Motor City? Does anybody else have these particular survey charts or anything different that indicate a higher position being reached by either artist? Lee
