Modern Anthems

Back in the day, well my day any way, most Northernsoul tracks where unknown by the great unwashed, now that was a shame as the music is mega and most people would enjoy the tunes that have become classics and anthems.

When the CD collections happened it allowed our music to be heard effortlessly and we now have well known and loved anthems that capture our imaginations and get us dancing or at least tapping our feat.

Yes we can all get snobby about this, I am the worlds worst offender but lets put these things to a side for a while and list the Modern Anthems, I hope we can do this without getting bogged down in the "It aint Modern coz it's old" argument.

If we list some of the better known, well loved danceable Modern tracks here then we may get more people peeping into the Modern Rooms or just listening and enjoying.

I'll start with a couple of my faves from over the years:

The Dells - Your Song

Lou Rawls - See You When I Get There

Thelma Houston - Saturday Night, Sunday Morning

These are all available on youtube and they make me smile and dance, I hope you enjoy them and I hope this list will be added to so we can all expand our minds in a expanding kinda way.

Aye Ali, and it's good to see a few of my posted tracks already on here!

Going with (I think...) the spirit of Simon's original thread intentions, just hit the Modern Soul Classics links below....

BTW my 'you tube' channel link below is better for the tunes...........

I dont think this has been posted previously. Apologies if it has.

I must admit it does sound slightly different to how I remember it but hopefully it is the correct version that used to get played.

From one ealry post to another : "Be my Lady" Rockie Robbins - could already be if not already an anthem......

i'll go now before you pick on me............whistling

Hi Simon

Does this link mean you would prefer audio clips as opposed to You-Tube links & if so would non members be able to listen to them or does this work like refosoul where you have to be a member of soul source to listen to them.

If that is the case then I personally feel the You-Tube links work really well as not everyone on the soul scene is a member on here (though at times it feels like it  ) and as this link is in All About Soul as opposed to a protected forum it is open for the general publics enjoyment also. It seems a shame not to rub it in their faces what their missing out on :wicked::laugh: (I also think some of the videos are cool to look at  )

If this is the way you would prefer all future posts then please can you make sure Davetay doesn't read the instructions as my head can't take another night like Sunday :swoon: (Tazmanian Devil springs to mind  )

Sorry if this post doesn't make sense but I dont understand technology at all so would appreciate your thoughts & guidance thumbsup.gif

Cheers
