Suinoz Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 What an honour to have some of the remaining artists form Motown appearing live for us right here in sunny Perth, Western Australia in February. Fantastic lineup will include the Four Tops, Temptations, Mary Wilson, Marth Reeves and the Vandellas plus the Miracles along with the great Joan Osborne ( she's in the film, standing in the shadows of Motown ) and our very own Ian Moss and Jimmy Barnes who has just done a cover of the Jackie Wilson hit, Higher and Higher ( sounds great too and would'nt go amiss at any soul night ). While we respect the fact that there are very few of the original artists left, at least there will be a handfull of them to ogle over. This really is a very special event for us and follows the visit from Al Green later this month and the awesome performance by Betty Harris last year at the Flybynight Club, the venue for South West Soul. If your planning a holiday here then get onto the website and book your tickets ( google Motown event Perth ) Did'nt want to put this in the events thread cos it's a bit of soul history in the making, not an advert for the event. You all stay warm and soulful. Happy new year everyone. Tony T Bone. OZ. Spreading The Faith Down Under.
Kris Holmes Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Yes, just booked tickets for the New Zealand stop of the tour. Don't care much for Osborne & Barnes, Ian Moss was a snoozefest live last year also. But the convenience of having what's left of the 4 Motown acts on in one day is too good to miss. Can't wait. Although only having 5 original members combined between the 5 acts makes me a bit sad.
Ian Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Looks good in New zealand going myself, set in the middle of one of the best winerys in Hawkes Bay Also its the middle of summer so its gonna be hot https://www.missionconcert.co.nz/schedule/motown50.aspx?ParentPageID=42&PageID=42 Ian

Yep makes me sad too Kris, but we gotta enjoy what's left of the original acts cos they ain't gonna be around forever. As you probably saw in another thread we lost Willie Mitchell this week, they are slowly slippin' away ( not a pun by the way ) to that soul den in the sky. Long live the music. Joan Osborne and Barnsey both have great voices. Nice to see your reply anyway. Stay soulful, ATB Tony. OZ.
Sunnysoul Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 (edited) To even mention the words "soul" and "Jimmy Barnes" in the same sentence is an absolute insult and offence to the the great tradition of soul music. Jimmy Barnes is an appalling performing artist - if one can even call him that - and an embarassment to both Australian music and music in general. Edited January 7, 2010 by sunnysoul

Yes, this is the reason I am going, probably the closest you will get at this late point in their history. I think Ronnie McNeir is in the Four Tops these days too & maybe Claudette will come with the Miracles.... long shot I am now regretting not stopping at Hi in Memphis back in 08 when we drove past for a look & saw Willie Mitchell standing in the doorway. Hopefully it doesn't affect Al Green's upcoming tour at all.......

Guest bazabod_downunder Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Couldn't agree more George.......but not as bad as Human Nature who should be shot on sight along with a few other soul pretenders. BTW a bit of bad news Marva Whitney has suffered a stroke whilst on her Aus tour, she's currently in hospital in Melbourne. BTW a bit of bad news Marva Whitney has suffered a stroke whilst on her Aus tour, she's currently in hospital in Melbourne. KTF Baz Marva left hospital & flew back to Kansas City a couple days ago, understandably she had to cancel her Australian tour after just 2 shows. The stroke paralyzed the left side of her body, from the face down to her toes, and she was rushed to Hospital. Fortunately, she made an amazing recovery and was released from the hospital just two days later. She is expected to make a pretty full recovery & should perform again after some rest & recovery time. Sad news, but a positive outcome at least. Hopefully she continues her recovery as planned.
