Personally i dont take Jms as a guide. I know one went on ebay at £270 and i sold one for £250...but i hope you do find one for $300 mate.

I agree with that John, although the paler copy is not a white demo as such: it's pale pink with blue type and doesn't state 'dj copy' or 'not for sale' or any term like it.

The copy on the orange logo which looks like the later Goodie Train releases such as Eboney Essence, Sam Frazier, Tiny Watkins etc. is, i'd guess. extremely rare.

I was surprised that JM's went so cheaply: maybe it was a bit near to Christmas and also maybe wasn't the type of record that tends to do well on his auctions: I know it's a sweeping generalisation but the classic oldies in good condition seem to hit top dollar with more certainty over there than sounds which are little-known but have potential.

Very True Gareth. Frank has been rising in price for the last 5 years and Jms was the cheapest ive seen. Adam Leaver has an orange copy. Still think the very cheap Chris Jones- Destination unknown is as good as the rest on Goodie Train.

I take eBay as a guide because, unlike every other guide, eBay sales actually point out the going rate for a 45 in a forum where all of us had an opportunity to bid. Until a record has been sold, it's not worth shit outside of it's musical content.

Records change hands thousands of times per day so I think it's a little silly to abide by price guides as the market is bigger than all of us. Once you've admitted this, you're better able to take advantage of the market either as a buyer or a seller. Sometimes you'll get deals from people who can't promote their auctions well and sometimes, by better promoting your auction's to hoarding, fetishing collectors like myself, you'll get much more than what price guides claim. Regarding this Frank Hutson 45, two clean copies sold this year on eBay for $300 and one of them was from Kid Inquisitive's auction and dudes like that tend to intelligently take advantage of the market's fluidity so I've got plenty of faith that this is a fair price. And besides, why would I ever volunteer to pay hundreds more than the going rate on eBay?

and please, have good taste. If you want a copy for $300, post your own damn want instead of hijacking mine. Not trying to start shit but come on, that's bogus.

That's all fair enough, but even a cursory look at popsike reveals that every single copy listed has gone for over $300, some for over $500. If you re-read the posts above you will see that no-one has quoted the guides at you, because this record isn't in most of them. The prices quoted here are simply recounting real-world, recent transactions among the posters themselves: first hand accounts, not published guides.

The recent auction by John Manship produced a price of around £158 if memory serves. Several people here have pointed out that this price was something of an anomaly and low by recent standards.

And regarding John Manship's auction ...having watched it for so long with particular interest ....i can honestly say ,records that are not so well known tend to sell for less.

Rey Villar .....went for £405

Little Samson did'nt even hit £200

Domestic five ....about £250

People might regard John's auction results as very successful ,but usually on the more well known ,tried and tested imho

Horses for courses as well, because there are a lot of people who regard these kind of records as a bit left field ,they don't appeal to everyone and not necessarliy floor fillers.

Marmite records maybe but it should'nt detract from the fact, there is a demand and a lot of the time they're very hard to obtain

got one of these from CDExpress from the Netherlands for £75, it arrived very poorly packaged with no cardboard inside or f##k all and was split from the inside, working in a spiral to the outer edge,

in other words completely f##kt and non repairable.

Gutted is not the word as it is such a rarity and the refund did not soften the blow, I try too see the every event good or bad as being one of those 'happened

for a reason' events - I still can't see why that one did.

So CDExpress - you tossers and I hope that s##ting out the hedgehog was not too painful.

Put on a Soul or Nothing Complilation by yours truly about 4/5 years ago i think. It will deffo become harder to find and higher in price as time goes buy.
