Tammaraw-I don't want to lose you-On A Star. Arthur Fenn's old Newday C/U, this may well be it's year.

Firebolts-Everybody party-Greenback, Every copy on ebay has sold over the last 6 months and each time for a little more, someone is buying them. Great Crown Heights type dancer

another ex Mecca last hour spin which deserves more exposure is : REO LANE - GIVE ME YOUR LOVE - BREN

John

I'll second this one thumbsup.gif

Has been played by those in the know for decades BUT maybe 2010 could see it become a real monster?

(Hope so!)

Will post some more in the next few days

FIREBOLTS - EVERYBODY PARTY (GET DOWN) - GREENBACK -

Posted

Hi Chalky,

I was expecting this to really take off last year, but despite a few plays it never really seemed to catch on. Brilliant record and deserves to get a lot more attention.....let's hope that 2010 sees it on a lot more playlists

Been looking for one of these ever since you put the soundfile in the 60s thread Steve.....zero luck in finding one though angry.gif. Great stuff good.gif.

Couple from me that I've got high hopes for in 2010:

Keith & Billie - Tastes Sour Don't It c/w If You Move You Lose - Piccadilly.

UK only double sider that sounds the business out loud....thanks to Mr Fingers for giving me the tip on this.

Jo Ann Garrett - What'cha Been Doing - Duo

Love this, it's got the lot! Not unknown but def underplayed.

Keith & Billie is the released version of that acetate by Barbara Jean English that came from the Jimmy Radcliffe archive.

Irma Routen, words fail me, which is probably a good thing

Some belters to chase down guys thanks a lot.

Couple from me all different in style:

Alvin Christie - Devil Darlin - Viva - Went down a storm at last Keele cheepish but so hard to find

Sonics - Find Myself Another Girl - Valmon - Brown eyed soul outta Texas

Cheaters - Call a Cheater - Jolo - Quirky uptempo rip off of the Tony Hatch penned Call Me though with no credit given to him

Posted

One for me that could go massive in any R&B room:

Bobby Marchan - Funny Style - Dial

Not unknown, but I'm amazed this is not a classic yet.. it's got everything, rhythm'n'soul perfection from '65! You should be able to find one for 30£ or less, give it a listen in the refosoul section!

fab and cheap......but hard to find!!!!!!!!!!

The Scott Three - Running Wild - March........had plays the latter half of last year by Steve G, but a couple more copies have surfaced ( whistling.gif) which will hopefully give it greater exposure in 2010.

Holidays - Cover Up..........Blinding proppa Northern Soul.

Relatives.........as Brett quite rightly says one of the best releases of last year, had plays, but now uncovered etc will reach epic proportions in 2010, certainly deserves to be huge.............

Happy New Year

Russ

Hope so Russ, been banging away with this for 3 three years with a little help from Chalky and Maria O, Proper Detroit group soul dancer.

Good on you Simon.

I've got the Billion Dollar Band LP - must go take a listen... and also got the Bobby Patterson LP.

Come to think of it, I've got Bobby P on 45 too!

Always liked it.

Agree - time it was given a proper run out!

Talking of the Bobby Patterson Paula LP. I would have thought - Everything Good To You (Don't Have To Good For You) would have be bigger if it had been a single rather than an LP track....

BERRES HAMOND - ALL SEASON LOVE - FEDDA

PLAYED LAST YEAR AT BAMBURG BY MR THORLEY IN AN AFTERNOON SESSION (SUPERB, HAPPY, SUMMER TUNE)

NOT IN REFOSOUL, MAYBE DAVE CAN DO A CLIP ?

Yep, I agree John, 'Everythings Good' is a great track.

Also agree with your Gene Taylor pick.

One of the finest double sided 45's in the known world!

Pure Womack Genius.

Oooooh Simon, was that a subtle dig???

More for the record room than the dance floor

Oscar Irvin - Let One Hurt Do - Abbot, I know Mr Biggerstaff likes this one. Also done by L J Reynolds on Lawton

Exceptionals - Unlucky Girl - GRT, a great cover of Betty Everett. I really like the flip What About Me, too.

Anyone seen issues of either of the two above?

And to complete the picture.....on the soulful house front this ought to do some damage as we look toward the great lady's appearance in Wales................oh, did I mention Wales...............mixed by Sean McCabe from that very country!! Tune!

You will, however, need to be into downloads...........well, we are talking new music in 2010............I don't really like it anymore than most of you........but it's what comes out the speakers that matters most! yes.gif

....ooh, I'll join in, too shades.gif

I'd been trying to license 'Leave Something Worthwhile' and a few other cuts for a 45 from a 5 or 6 track CD I had from the producer around 2003 for about two years before eventually giving up as he didn't seem that bothered in the end and also didn't seem to know who or where Gene West was. The group name he had was Gene West and the Electric Word - now called The Relatives.

Glad to see someone persisted and finally got the stuff out there - the other stuff sounds good. Hopefully they'll stick LSW on a nice loud 45 - lots of potential in that one good.gif
