HI guys looking to top up my box with a few credit crunching busters.Looking for uptempo Northern with an R&B edge costing less than £50.Do any of you have any closely guarded secrets that you are willing to let out of the bag.Recommendations appreciated Thanks--Patto Hi mate, hope you're well....did you ever get the CL Blast?? I love uptempo, I love RnB and I have no money so I love cheapies . Theres literally thousands of top quality records available for under £50...most under £25. In the last week or so I've done a few sales lists of 'Recommended Cheapies'....which I've copied below for you (with couple of additions), only 60s uptempo as I took out the 70s and mid tempo. Jesse Johnson - Funky Soul Stroll/Holes In My Soul - Oak 2 fantastic uptempo sides M- £20 Bill Pinkney - I Found Some Lovin - Veep wdj Brilliant, pounding dancer with a sax break from heaven. EX wol £20 King George - Ah Huh/So Long Johnny - RCA wdj. Sticker and wol. M- £20 Stunning mid tempo double sider. Kittens - Ain't No More Room/Hey Operator - Chess EX+ £25 Great double sider. Velvetones - What Can The Matter Be - Verve DJ. EX £20 Superb 60s girl group dancer. Lee Dorsey - Vista Vista - Amy DJ. M- £20 Stafford monster back in th day and sounds just right again. Eddie Bo - I Found A Little Girl - At Last RnB legend let's rip on this stormer of a track, fantastic! EX+ £30 Betty Wilson - Don't Give Up - Dayco A real stunner, the guitar intro sets the pace soon to be followed by a distinctive vocal and storming backing. Like up tempo RnB style dancers?? If you do take a listen! M- £35 Jimmy Dobbins - Little Miss Perfect/What Is Love - Crash Two contrasting sides on this Chicago beauty, really good up tempo northern dancer which seems to have been missed by many. Flip it over for a superbly soulful track with a growling vocal that just grabs your attention. M- £40 33 1/3 - Treat Her Right - Slew Apparently this had a few spins at Wigan though it's forgotten by most, but surely this fits perfectly into the current trend for gritty, up tempo 60s dancers. Soundfile goes wrong in last 20 seconds or so, messed up when recording it ages ago! This copy plays perfectly. M- £40 Holidays - Watch Out Girl - Golden World Dark, gritty slab of Detroit soul that sounds awesome out loud. Like many of the cheaper GW, Ric-Tics and Revilot stuff it's also an overlooked gem. M- £10....just 2 copies left. Forevers - What Goes Around (Comes Around) - Weis Up tempo 60s dancer with strong female lead vocal backed by an excellent girl group, pushed and prompted all the way by a real stormer of a backing track. Sound good? Well it is and why this has yet to get the plays it deserves I don't know! M- £25 Major Lance - Do The Tighten Up - Dakar Totally overlooked, yet it's a totally brilliant record! M- £20 Bobby Powell - Do Something For Yourself/It's Getting Late In The Evening - Whit WDJ Superb double sider that was briefly covered up. It's always worth listening to Bobby Powell's releases as they tend to be cheap but quality and this is one of his best. M- slight slow warp, NAP £20 Bernard Byers - No Time Too Cry - V-Tone WDJ I love this, RnB dancer with great jazzy influences all combing to make a brill mod dancer. EX £20

Philt Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 (edited) Again, no secrets here bud and not necessarily stormers or rnb (apart from that though they all fit your bill exactly ). Been having a bit of a rummage and while 99% of the folk on here will probably know 99% of these I think they're all great cheap records which, for whatever reason, I'm as guilty as anyone of never seeming to play anymore : Garnet Mimms - prove it to me Reflections - out of the picture Emotions - do this for me No No Starr - swing your love my way Betty Everett - claim on you Betty Lavette - stand up like a man (can't find mine so if anyone has a spare ...) Willie Harper - but I couldn't Fred Hughes - don't let me down (Ashamed to say I'd forgotten how awesome this is!) Major Lance - since I lost my baby's love Joe & George - no one loves you La Shell & Shelletts - you better check yourself Intruders - check yourself Betty Everett - too hot to hold Players - get right Wade & Jamie - don't put off til tomorrow Bobby Bland - yield not to temptation Joe Simon - just like yesterday Summits - sophisticated lady Ballads - keep the faith Soul Bros Inc - all the time Jimmy Norman - family tree Jimmy Holliday - new breed How much is Tammy Wayne these days? Still absolutely blows me away!!!! Finally, just give Banksie a ring or PM, he'll have boatloads I suspect Happy hunting Edited December 12, 2009 by PhilT
