Tommy1 Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 There has been a lot of new bands/artists over the last decade that has released soul/funk on 45s which I think is because they want a special kind of scene/people to buy it. Some of it is good and some of it is not so good. And there is so much going on these days that you might not get it all. The last I've heard is a UK artist called Gizelle Smith which is quite good. So, i would love some good recommendations, or maybe a list of your favourites? By that I mean so good that you will play it out, or at least buy it! Some of mine: Kings go forth Sharon Jones (most of the daptone stuff as well!) Nicole Willis and the Soul investigators
Cunnie Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Quite a few things on this thread you might be interested in Tommy. Not all on 7" vinyl & can't for the life of me see why that matters but each to his own I guess. This is quite good & on 7" & in stock at Crazy Beat. Be sure to listen to both sides though. B side sounds just a little bit like Willie Tee https://www.crazybeat.co.uk/more-info/Teenagers/Keep+On+Walking++Lean+On+Me++What+A+Unbelieble+Double+Sider++This+Should+Be+At+The+Top+Of+Everybodys+Play+Lists+In+A+Few+Days++Unmissable/Unique/70067//

Guest WPaulVanDyk Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 I hate to say but i don't know too much of underground but my 3 fav artists of the last 10 years who have made soul music are 1. Joss Stone - so talented and sings like an old soul singer, one of our best 2. Lemar - a great singer and like Joss stone writes some of his music too 3. John Legend - American's best soul/R & B singer of last 10 years i say very much like him a lot

Remember Joss stone, she was really big around the world, I even got a 7" of her BUT, where is she now? Lemar I don't know. John Legend, IMO he was ok, but I can't remember any "big" tunes from him? Remember that he palyed in Oslo a copuple of times (allways sold out), but that was that, or?
