The End Of An Era..the 1200 Waves Goodbye

Recommended Posts

Just found this on this internet...goodness me. End of an era indeed. Sure, there are already other products in use (mostly copying the good old 1200) but sure this is a milestone which will lead now definitely into a new era in which night - and clublife will change once and for all. Better leave the next 45 aside and invest in two or three replacement turntables...especially if you are a promoter.

The last dance RIP Technics turntables

"The phrase end of an era gets bandied about far too often, usually to describe the exit of a talentless no-mark from a reality show, but alas no other cliché is applicable. It's our sad duty to report that Panasonic are to stop making Technics turntables. In a statement the company announced that production would end in February next year.

A spokesperson for Panasonic said:

"It is a sad day today but due to low sales globally in analogue turntables a decision to stop production has been made on Technics Turntables."

Digital turntables and the ease of storing music on laptops means that demand for the turntables has dried up. The memories of illegal raves, house parties and filthy beach sex while Pete Tong had it large on the ones and twos at Cafe Mambo will soon be all you have."

I'd like to think my relationships with the Technics left better memories than that! biggrin.gif

Technics will be around for another 20 years Marc. I have four and am always upgrading pieces of them. They're INDESTRUCTIBLE! :D

Parts will be around for while yet I reckon. good.gif

Does this include the 1210s too? If so that's some sad sad news indeed... Better start recording those beloved to mp3s then (and donate 'em to yours truly because they won't be playable anyway wicked.gif )

No seriously... this really sums up the position of vinyl in musicland sad.gif

Never understood why people don't seem to care about the fact that vinyl SOUNDS BETTER

Ah good news! I'm wondering though how they will improve the MKII which, as we all know, is already perfect...

the model they want to emulate is the Vestax Controller One , which by the way is BEAUTIFUL

Hopefully they won't stop aking them.

But it's hardly the end of an era, and all that stuff about usic being only on mp3 and demand drying up for turntable is b*llocks. People (like me) who want but can't spend 8000 dls for a Technics turntable, choose other brands like Numark, Gemini or Vestax wich are good enough and way cheaper.

There will always be a demand for turntables. A lot of bands and labels in Europe are releasing stuff only on vinyl, with a coupon to download the record free from the web. The CD is in deathrow, and that's good for vinyl.

Here's an article showing how much vinyl sales have increased in the past years: https://bit.ly/4wO9ju

So, yeah, mp3 and high quality audio formats will be the industry's standard, but vinyl won't be dying anytime soon.

I think it will be sometime before vinyl is dead and no matter what 1 company stops making turntables will not result in the loss sice as said other companies make them

have Gemini turntables myself and quite good. You only have pick up leaflets and magazines from dj shops to see the latest models and find that it's healthy for now

Seems as if shops are the ones not stocking as much vinyl (HMV in Peterborough) but are willing to order if you can't find what your looking for
