Soulboy69 Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Hello good people of Soul Source. Looking for some information about this track if anyone can help? What is the current (realistic) value of an original pressing and is there a surefire way of telling the original from the bootleg copy? Thanks for reading, any info appreciated.
Northern Soul Uk Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 can't really tell you much about it, apart from it used to get played at Cleethorpes in the 70s by 'Ian Dewhirst' (Frank) This is my copy, think it's a boot, didn't cost much anyway so not too bothered if it is. I love it anyway

Rob Wigley Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Very certain thats an original-love this record -I bought the bootleg when it was first done-I have both . The boot has a gloss finish to the label, found my orig in the US many years later and its more of a matt finish to it and is lighter green like the one you enclosed Rob
Rob Wigley Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 looks like myself and Val posted the same time--thats it in the comparison scans ! Hello val Rob
Kjw Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Great record that's stood the test of time - I always thought the bootleg looked more authentic than the original Pricewise - I sold an original copy on here about a year ago for £200

I love it anyway Gonna have to disagree on the authenticy here...this looks like a bootleg to me, you can see a sheen from the gloss label, and the print is not as pronounced as on the original label. Back to the question though....value-wise 200+ easily, especially now it's picking up 2nd time round plays...
Garethx Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 I agree with Cliff. The photo being slightly over-exposed makes the label look lighter but you can still tell it's got a gloss seal as opposed to being unsealed, matt paper as per the original.
Pete S Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 (edited) Never in a million years is this worth £200. Should be £100 - £125. I've sold half a dozen at that price in the last 5 years. It's not a rare record. Edited December 1, 2009 by Pete S
Kjw Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Definitely £200 now for an original Pete - all the others I've seen since have sold for around the same price and I know people who have paid more A lot of people actually have the bootleg thinking it's the original because it looks so professional in the finish compared to the original - it's rarer than people realise

Exus Trek, the version I had on my list yesterday books at £500, I listed it for half that and didn't sell it...
Marc Forrest Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Back to the question though....value-wise 200+ easily, especially now it's picking up 2nd time round plays... I would have said the records 2nd time is already history. Anway, it used to sell up to 300 UKP in recent times (lists and interent). Great record by the way.
Val (Chunky) Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Just check the number in the run out to be sure.....original has 5444A
Pete S Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Anway, it used to sell up to 300 UKP in recent times (lists and interent). When has it sold for that amount and have the sellers and buyers been locked up in a mental home? F*cking ridiculous.
Marc Forrest Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 When has it sold for that amount and have the sellers and buyers been locked up in a mental home? F*cking ridiculous. Cant tell as I don´t know them buyers and sellers in person...still, it wasn`t cheapie since the eighties and once demand had risen the price of course had to follow. Its not the first and won`t be the last time were demand dictates a rise in price. Don`t know why I bother though, I bought mine over twenty years ago and still have it, so what ever price, I don`t care really.

Pete, I would happily pay you £125 for your next near mint original issue you get hold of

Sorry Marc but it's been cheap - relatively cheap - until about 18 months ago. In the late 90's early 00's I was buying it in at 40 to 60 quid and selling it for 75 to 85

Sebastian Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 I need an original issue of this record (5444A in the runout groove, NOT 5544A). If anyone has got a copy for sale, please PM me with price and condition. Thanks in advance.
Northern Soul Uk Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 That settles it then, mine is glossy and it has '5544A' on the run out, but like I say it was cheap so not bothered and it is an excellent track.
Soulboy69 Posted December 1, 2009 Author Posted December 1, 2009 Thanks for all the replies and for your input. Now, is anybody out there willing to sell me an ORIGINAL copy??
