Supercorsa Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 (edited) I bought this a couple of years ago for about $6 off ebay. A little while after I saw a copy go through John Manship's auction for £70+, I realise this isn't always a true reflection of value. I'd just like to know what it's worth now, as I'm wondering about selling it. Edited May 31, 2006 by rachel
Supercorsa Posted July 18, 2005 Author Posted July 18, 2005 One other thing, how much does an issue copy go for?
Headsy Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 should be £ 10 for the issue, in 1977/78 we found a box of 100 in a junk shop !! there are literally thousands of issues lying around ( somewhere ) the demo is nice mind.
Guest Dan Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 impossible to value really isn't it not a 'market' value for it as as it is a TP there is no quantity around but would say £50-£100 maybe more if it was getting played again (unless it is???)
Ernie Andrews Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 One other thing, how much does an issue copy go for? link Got test press myself- Got it from new York in FEB Yes it still gets played
Guest Dan Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Got test press myself- Got it from new York in FEB Yes it still gets played link i doubt you paid £50 to £100 either then
Guest woolie mark Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 i've heard this played out a fair bit recently - filled the flor at sheridans new year niter i remember (through the haze of the closest thing i have to a memory of that night!) issue about £15, i agree, but i've seen a few on lists for more recently not sure myself that a test-pressing is worth a lot more - i would say that £50 is way too much but it's a really nice item, innit

I'd just like to know what it's worth now, as I'm wondering about selling it. link I got one of those around the same time, though I paid a whopping $9 for mine. A few dozen (I think) were found, and banged on ebay. Got to say, I'd never seen one, and I've only ever seen one since on a dealers list (which was about four weeks after it was on ebay - so work that one out) I wouldn't sell it if I was you. You ain't gonna make a killing, OK, based as a percentage of $6 you are, but I'd keep it - like Dan says, it's a test press and not very common. Was massive everywhere as a new release and still at 'Oldies' venues. I still like it, it holds memories for me and it had a spin once or twice in the early days at Soulsville. Jamie

Simon T Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 The Demo is Blue isn't it?? The mono side will be white, as always. The stereo side will be blue for most 70's Atlantic outings. Jamie link
Haydn Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Still getting plays to a packed floor and a very nice tune although the other outing " Circle of love" has surpassed this methinks. H.
Guest woolie mark Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 MAYBE IN YOU FECKIN LIVING ROOM MATE WISE UP MAN link yeah, that's right rich, sheridans is in my living room
Guest woolie mark Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 the other outing " Circle of love" has surpassed this methinks. link don't know this is it a single or album track?
Simon T Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 don't know this is it a single or album track? link It definatley on 7" as I have one somewhere. I think it might be their first single on ATCO because I've got the LP which I seem to remember is called "Circle of Love". I've read somewhere that LDYGTNCOM was their 3rd single, but I've no idea what the ''second'' single might be, if indeed it does exist. Anyway, apprently all their singles bombed and so Nile Rodgers was asked to write something for them by one of the Atlantic A&R bods. On asking what they were like, he was told their a great bunch of girl, there are 'like family'. And as they say in a corny American accent the rest is history "Sistyer Sledge and We Are Family"
mischief Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 (edited) I don't know "Circle of love" but have played "cream of the crop" out and thats a blinder.. (and cheap) Forgot to add "love don't go etc... " always gets spun at scooter do's, and will always fill the floor.... Edited July 19, 2005 by mischief
Cover-up Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 "Thinking Of You" is one of my favourite tracks of all time. While being not quite disco, not quite modern, not quite crossover and not quite funk, it has all those ingredients and the whole adds up to more than the sum of the individual parts. Has it ever got spins anywhere or is it just too darned obvious? Can anyone recommend anything in a similar vein - to my ears Margie Joseph's "I Can't Move No Mountains" has a similar kind of sound...

I remember selling dozens of copies i got from a deletions wholesaler prior to it's reissue cos it was such a huge underground tune before it got radio plays. it was easy to get before reissue cos it was the flip of one of their big chart hits (lost in music?) and the album was a big seller too - so could never have been big on the northern scene cos it's worth about 20p and it was an eighties chart hit! imho one of the best soul records ever made though not quite disco, or modern, or crossover, or funk? sounds like a description for my favourite kinda tune - like say: jackson sisters i believe in miracles or main ingredient happiness is just around the bend or gwen mcrae keep the fire burning

Sebastian Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Sistyer Sledge and We Are Family" link "Easier To Love" on the flipside of "We Are Family" is a magnificent midtempo tune in my opinion.
mischief Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Play Cream of the Crop to meself every now and then, d'ye reckon it's worth playing out? tony link i've played it out, went down well. depends on the crowd.. was told It did get plays somewhere.. but can't remeber where.
Guest woolie mark Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Sister Sledge - 'Smile' is lovely too. link oh yeah, i remember that, came out in the mid eighties - got played in southern soul clubs, haven't heard it for 20 years what's the name of the album?

By the way, are all copies of "Love.." on US Atco pressed way off centre - or is it just both of mine?
Supercorsa Posted May 26, 2006 Author Posted May 26, 2006 I missed the end of the auction on Pat Brady's site for the Sister Sledge test pressing, does anyone know what it went for? Last I saw, it was at £145!
Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 That would probably be "Mama Never Told Me" - at least I think that predated "Love..." SS' first single on Atco was "The Weatherman" - a ballad. Prior to that they had one release on the terminally obscure "Money Back" label out of Philly, "Time Will Tell". Who else besides me remembers seeing 'em on TOTP in '73, singing "Mama Never Told Me" - live!? TONE

Jim G Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 Circle of Love was played at the Casino at the same time as LDYGTNCOM. Both were on the album Circle of Love released in the US and UK. I have it somewhere.
Dave Pinch Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 mama never told me originally came out in 1973 but im sure they were on top of the pops singing it in 1975 when it was re issued and it made the top 20. 1st issue is actually quite rare. only way to tell is the catalogue number. dave
