yep, crap... I found buggar all back in 2005, although I did very much enjoy my day at yesterday, today, and tomorrow records, nice chap who is bang into progressive rock, ended buying one of those Circle Records Action lps, ironic really to go that far only to bring Brit releases back to the UK.

get a hire car and trap upto fort Lauderdale

If your looking to buy good condition records at a "FAIR" price the contact Jason at majorwaxbuildup on facebook or myspace. He's plenty of good condition 45s but make sure you take some decent cash as he knows exactly what is what. You ain't gonna find a Prophets on Shrine bfopr cents on the dollar Mate, that's for sure. Good Hunting! :good:

Beanos warehouse in St Petersburg is always worth a dig around. I found a Tartans and a Lew Kirton in there among other things.

I did have a spectacular hit at an Orlando flea market about 10 years ago but only for albums and 12"'s. I went through a box in a corner of a furniture store and found around 20 great albums @ $1 apiece. It turned out the son of the people who ran the store was a prolific album/12" collector but died of aids and his whole collection was back at the parents house. Took an afternoon but I bought around 500 pieces and it made the whole trip worthwhile!

More chance of finding good soul 45s in Mumbai than Florida nowadays.

Here's something we are in total agreement on Dave! Last time we were there I got naff all for a fortnight, then some guy told me about a geezer who was supposed to have a few sacks of old 60s records in the Little Havana area - we went down there, got two blocks into the neighbourhood, still a few streets from him...

Yep more difficult now in 2009 but you never know do you?

Miami area is pretty well sorted but i just beat John Anderson and Richie Rozen to Richard Minor's warehouse when he passed on in the clink a few years back.

His mom, god bless her, took me back to their place and i had a lovely time in Richies personnel stash and archive.

As Richie was a infamous bootlegger of Elvis Sun Records he used to buy up Warehouses of Old stock just to mince the vinyl for recreating "original" Milk Cow Blues Boogies.

The warehouse was full of Sun labels and "mother" stampers.

Some of the old stock in box after box reminded me of times i had in Global Manchester in the late 70's and Oldies Unlimited in Telford.

Florida has always turned up the unexpected.

Driving through Fort Myers one day to the beach to a shop i knew before hand i took a wrong turn and ended up in old town. Lost i decided to seek directions by going into a second hand shop, asked and received directions. Could'nt see a record about but asked the ubiquitous question "and would you have any records to sell".

"Yeah boy take a look in here" and she drew back a curtain behind her revealing a further room full top to bottom with 45's.

It turned out that she had recently bought out a juke box opperator for the old Juke's and got the records as part of the deal.

3rd record in Spyder Turner "can't make it" demo fourth one Barbara Mcnair demo "Gonna" and it just went on, most of the major 60's label stuff, Motown promo's and some real tasty items Pe oples Choice on Palmer and Tony Hestor on Giant "Watch"all for 25 cents a chuck, happy to at end, on my second trip, hand over $350 dollars having done a deal.

Also in Fort Myers was a Flea/ Farmers Inside Market that we just dropped in at, and came across this Black Guy, Bobby Womack lookalike, called, well i cant remember now

Loads of 45's that on going through came up with lots of Northern inc Percy Wiggins issue, Judy Freeman which as it was in the 2000 i found surreal.

Turns out that he had moved from Chicago where the family had a store which on closing was put in storage.

I tried to get him to let me in the major stash but he just were'nt interested.

Went back the next day but he was closed and all the lot was surrounded with security mesh. He must have restocked as i could see lots of new sleeves in their and a lot of Dearborn sleeves! As i was leaving for UK next day that was that and on returning the next trip was greeted with "Flea Closed" the internet had arrived.

So the best advice is follow your instincts and nose. Forget the picked over shops and try the Thrift stores.

Florida is the size of he Uk and many Yanks retire their for the weather, often taking their record stash's with them. Their out their and i saw a recent ebay Joblot sale of a garage full of 45's in Florida, bid up to 2500 dollars, blind.

Who knows but all good fun.

Just remembered the Black guys name in Fort Myers, Fred Walker.

Maybee still around, i went to a address he gave me, HEAVY, HEAVY Black neighbourhood and it was his girlfriend's (Police escort out "man i dont know how you got in here but if you value your life i would suggest you lock your doors and follow me out of here)

However she had fooked him off for "balling" with one of the girls at the local lap dancing club, and no records their, or forwarding address......

I think Jerry's records in McDuff, Jacks closed around 2001

Reminded me though of also in Jacksonville ABE LEVERTS which was a BIG hit in late 70's.

They had a big store back to the mid 50's (now closed but was opperating from home) and were on the mailing list for all the Record co's and Push Plug guys.

Consequently they received service of multiple copies, too such an extent they gave promo's away with every shop purchase.

They also were a big account with Southland Distributors in Atlanta and bought their on a weekly basis due to best prices on sealed 100 and 25 "count" boxs (same tune)

Interestingly enough they would also, based on price, themselves Push a record locally in Jacks and consequently had local hits by getting the local Radio jocks in on the deal.

Told me Jerry Williams on Southern then Loma was down to them and also ikettes on Modern was down to them amongst others.

Big Black area and lots of vinyl everywhere once upon a time, not sure whats left now.

Ofcourse Florida with the climate coast, beach was a Hot spot for Pushing the Beach scene in the 60's and a lot of good hits came from Flea Markets.

Cocoa was a massive hit with a mountain of Vinyl their but unfortunately left in the open air covered in some areas with tarpulians and some left plain open to the elements.

Mostly promo's their, no idea where it came from originally but a flick through excersise with a beer stood in the sun! Too much to go through, masses of Northern inc Bernie Williams as a standout at the time.

Daytona, Fort Lauderdale (John Richbourg of SS7 and the widow of the guy who owned Cameo, Parkway/Fairmont etc moved here with archive) St Petes have all been good in their time and not forgetting a massive hit in New Port Richie at a flea their.

Always remember going for a meal into "shells" at St Johns Bluff and one of the oldies being played was Valentino's "sweeter", a little surreal albeit a minor US hit!

Jealous as F**k reading stuff like this Alan , it must have been like being a kid in a candy store !

I suppose a lot of the stuff was bought blind because it was so cheap or could you actually listen

to the records before you bought them? Did you send the vinyl back to the uk by freight/courier etc

or did you carry it back in luggage and if so did you have to pay any duty/taxes?

So many questions eh!

Cheers

Swifty

p.s. what would you say would be the best area in the States to find vinyl nowadays or

has it all been tapped (but it's a bloody big place!)
