Guest Swish Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Brijid Absolutely brilliant photos. I knew nearly everyone. So emotional, so strong, so reminds me of the way it was. Filling up now (no kidding , no bollocks) Jesus Christ it was good wasn't it. No wonder I've spent so long writing the book. Sometimes I just cry and can't do it. No wonder I don't bother with soul dos anymore. They are all just pale shadows of what we had. I don't want to sit there in crap soul do's playing a few same old oldies with a few "newies" that we would have just thought were complete crap in OUR DAYS. Those brilliant people who were so special, so different and gifted compared to the ordinary folk we knew and the ordinary folk who go now. My heart cries for those people and those times. By chance of fate we were born with soul in our hearts, and guts and love and determination, to step away into our special and very risky world, full of love and full of danger. All the people who wanted to stop or hurt us, like the rollers, the thieves, the DS, our mums and dads also. WE were the boys and gals. No one else can ever know or ever will know. Much love Brijid, and all who knew the way it really was.

Jez Jones Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Great photos, Brigid and Sue here's a couple I've found lurking around Top one is me and Fido (Brian Faulkner) on our way to the Mecca ( 72 I think). Taken at motorway services. Looks like we were ready for it Funny wasn't it --in them days--you always had to jump into one of those photo booths ......Bottom one is me and Phil Whitehurst and if you look carefully there is a hidden 3rd face who we hijacked his photo It was I think possibly Bibbsy from Macclesfield or Sneaksy . Think this is 73 though--on a trip to Va Va's
Guest mooma Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 bloody hell jez I went out with Brian (FIdo) for a while in 75/76 lol he died tho didnt he? Had plenty of laffs with him and the maccy lads!!! sue

Guest Brigid Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Sue - One of the 'Bridgets' is me, think I am stood just behind you and the girl next to me, left on the photo, is Linda from Wolvs. That's Bob Dryden on the steps outside the house isn't it? Is that his now wife holding the dog i have been asked? Jez, you were definitely up for the Mecca by the looks of that photo, the service stations must have made an awful lot of money from us in those days with those photo booths and didn't we pull some very serious faces!!!!!!!!!!! Sue Hey - The guy on the photo is Tommy from Grantham, not heard of him since those days, not sure whatever happened to him. Swish - You're a star, keep up the writing, we are all waiting on this book now so no pressure! It is true that when you start to look through this memorabilia how you can become transported back and can actually feel the feelings. Having said that, it is still good to go out sometimes and hear the sounds and meet a few of the people, know its not the same but there still is some of that feeling within that rises to the surface and gives a warm glow as the music takes over. Brigid

Brigid Brigid, Tommy from Grantham was Tommy Moore. I'm sure I'd heard somewhere that he's passed on. Will try and find out more. I'd say there were around half a dozen or so Grantham regulars around that time. Most into the music, scene and gear and a few just into the gear. Apart from Rick Clarke and Tommy Moore there was --- Big Gez, Little Gez, Mick Stevens, Dave Owen, Johnny Adams and girlfriend Sherry (from Notts worked in HMV) Bri Mitchell -------- memories shite nowadays as I'm sure there were at least a couple of others. Mick Stevens and Johnny Adams are long gone. Edited November 30, 2009 by Dave Turner

Guest Brigid Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Paul - What a lovely looking couple (You and Mrs P of course!!). Who are the other people in the photo, do you remember? I am posting another couple of photos with Matchey in (I have posted these already some time ago but I don't think many people saw them, so I hope you all don't mind me re-posting). That afternoon we swapped the dance floor for the beach, didn't stop us though, we were dancing to a tune played on the diskette Steve Midgley had (the one around his neck ont he first photo posted on this thread). Heaven knows what the tourists thought of us, we didn't care, we had a great time. Brigid

Guest Dave Turner Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 What a fantastic thread this is Post # 42 Wow! Val (Snowy) Finlayson, a face I haven't seen for a long, long time. She used to spend a lot of time in Grantham at one point. Remember spending a few Saturdays at her Manchester flat before Wigan, again around '74. Middle pic left --- Little Gez (Grantham). There were two brothers (Geraghty) both known as Gez (Big & Little). Memories shite but one was Mick but can't remember if it was the younger (in photo) or older.

Guest proudlove Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Intuitive or what! Sounds like this thread might be releasing some very interesting stories,, don;t stop there Steve give us the details I've got an early start in the morning,so I,m going to think about how much can be put on an open forum, there are connections in your photos, needless to say Jill was totally innocent in all of it and her reputation is totally intact. OH sod it.here we go. I used to borrow cars to get about to various locations and Notts police had got a sniff from a careless chap who lived in Mapperley.Anyhow,I came down to Notts on a Friday night and sold a few bits off the car to make petrol money/club money. We borrowed a couple of pints of milk from the doorsteps around Jills flat and someone reported the reg on the car,put two and two together and called at Jills flat and made inquiries. In the meantime said long haired chap from said area in Notts talked me into looking at a canteen,we did ,he dived in,I heared the sirens(silent alarm)went to pull him out-and we both got lifted. I ended up in Lincoln on remand. In the meantime someone told everyone who had been interviewed about what went on that I had named and shamed people who had bought stereos/car parts/etc that I had bubbled them.I was released and went to the Torch.Let me tell you guys,if you think you have ever been scared in your life, you know nothing, the whole club turned rouned and snarled. My response----------wait for the statements to be read out in court------THEN make a judgement. It went to court in Notts my statement was read out, guess what------------------no names ,no packdrill. It even got as far as Wigan when it kicked off outside Mr..Ms.And then a couple of months later--------sorry Steve we now know it wasn't you------------it was blah-----------but it didn,t stop me getting a slap!!!!!!!!

Guest Brigid Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Sorry there's no answer to that. Sorry Steve after encouraging you to tell your story I had to leave my computer, hence no response. Think you have been very discreet in your story and if we could turn back the years I'm sure we'd all say sorry. Hope I didn't snarl at you that night in the Torch, probably too busy dancing if I know me! Brigid

Just spoken to Clarkie------------not a well man----------but we are going to pick him up and take him out shortly------------watch this space Steve
Guest Brigid Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Just been watching the Torch reunion video, Kev (Roberts), don't know if you have been reading this thread but in your interview you mentioned the first time you visited the Torch and saw Edwin Starr, you thought it was December 16th 1972. Well I decided to check my memorabilia again and have the monthly Torch programme for that month and indeed you would have been there on the 16th but there was a late programme change as you can see and in fact your first visit was on 31st December. Archie Bell came a couple of weeks later. Just thought you might like to see that. Brigid
Guest Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 Mrs D in her Torch Dress Roy C was appalling : he thought he was giving us good value by singing " Shotgun Wedding " SEVEN ferking times . I still cringe if it comes on t'radio ........ Malc Burton
Guest chrisbirmingham Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Brigid - this is Christine (from Birmingham not Wolverhampton) and I have this photo! I believe it is one of several that I took and I wrote on the back of some with dates etc. This one was taken on Nov 25th 1972 (in the loo at the Torch as you said!). The other girl is Christine Manton (Market Harborough) and we are still friends!! I haven't seen her for years though but we are on facebook together now. I have posted several old photos on fb - not sure how to get them onto this site but will have a go so you can see what I have (more with you on). Chris Another from the Torch, taken in the best of surrounds, the Ladies Toilets!!!!!!!! Me at the front, Christine from Wolves to the right and although I remember the other girl so well, just cannot recall her name, anyone know? Brigid
