Pete S Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 I've reported it, hope others will too, seller doesn't even mention that earl jackson is on the B side
pikeys dog Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 Yup, it's a boot - has a different artist on the other side.
soul45s Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 There's more on ebay uk, one uses the classic line 'limited re-issue' yeah....right !! They should rename ebay uk to boots-r-us.co.uk
Mark Bicknell Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 So all the reporting of previous similar sales on Ebay has had no impact what so ever now there's a suprise. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
Swifty Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Just had a look at the bidding on this and by the looks of it the first 15 bids are by the same bidder ? unless I'm reading it wrong Swifty
grant Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Just had a look at the bidding on this and by the looks of it the first 15 bids are by the same bidder ? unless I'm reading it wrong Swifty looks like he kept outbidding himself

Dave Pinch Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 but anyone wanting to spend money on records should really know originals when they see em. with small labels etc maybe the benefit of the doubt but with the majors.. stevie wonder should know the difference. f##kin idiots in my book dave
Guest GFAS03 Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 reported it too - but it won't change anything...
Ian Seaman Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 do we know who's making these boots ??, instead of whinging about sellers and ebay pratts who bid with their own hard earned not ours , why not go after the maker !! surely this is illegal, not only to sell them but to press them ?? or is this a no brainer Ian.

Unless its a blatant infringement of copyrite which they are legally obliged to act on, anything a little tenuous or difficult to substantiate and Ebay could not give a shit! But you dare to charge £1 for postage and they will remove your listings in a heartbeat Although mine are still up Edited November 24, 2009 by Guest
Diggin' Dave Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Maybe the winning bidder was tired eBay doing nothing about all this and decided to take it one step further
Bitchdj Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 i asked the seller the obvious 2 questions way before the auction ended...1-is it a bootleg?.... which it obviously was ..and 2-whats on the flip?...which was obviously earl jackson.... he declined to answer either question... so i reported him to e bay before the auction ended... i received a thankyou for reporting him/her and was also informed that i wouldnt be notified of the out come !!!... any of the bidders only had to go into music stack or gemm and check the label number and it states the flip is earl jackson and readily available for around £7.... what i find unbelievable is that 4 or 5 different people bid way over the records true worth not just 2 of them !!! anyone who hes ever collected at even the lowliest level..(and i dont mean that in a derogatory way).. knows what an abc or abc paramount label looks like... the other "standout" for me was his/her no returns policy.....what recession??

Probably his mates bidding it up for him. Actually, looking at their sales and purchases, I think we could probably be looking at a female seller here! Not that it should tip anything in their favour though.......... Edited November 24, 2009 by Gene-R

I don't think it's really fair to blame the bidders for the seller's misleading listing, the label looks real enough and there are label variations, etc. that someone who hasn't been collecting for a long time might not be able to differentiate between. The buyer will know instantly when they get it in the mail and see the flip!
Bitchdj Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 (edited) my point was that there are enough searches you can put into your computer nowadays to authenticate records of which youre unsure.... and there are enough good price guides/bootleg guides from john manship highlighting the dubious !! anyone new to this scene should surely "arm" themselves with all the info available.. because it can be a veritable minefield.... most of us have been bitten at least once over the years im sure ??? Ernie Andrews Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 (edited) Ive just messaged him (a question about the b-side) about another record he has for sale that looks legit- lets see if he replies and if he does I will then ask him why he didnt reply to questions about the Trends. Wow ! It took him 5 minutes to reply Edited November 24, 2009 by Ernie Andrews

Ernie Andrews Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Well Iasked him why he hadnt replied to questions about the Trends and here is Coolaxle's answer: sorry i dont play games, you didnt even ask me a question before! and what has a previous auction got to do with you if you werent the winner? i suggest you occupy your time with better things than worrying about things that dont concern you, lifes short you know! but by the way just so i dont leave you in suspence, all the questions i had & seen while i was at home i answered, apart from around 3 that were asked around the last 6 hours of auction end which is when i was working, hence no answer His last bit about not answering because he was at work is bullshit because he answered my original question about the other record he has and said he would let me know when he got home as he was at work at the moment. What does this make him?

When I started bidding on ebay I got burned a few times because I wasn't used to buying from international dealers, in the US I don't have to deal with the risk of bootlegs since northern soul wasn't booted in the US. Now I know better. This was probably an expensive lesson for the buyer.

boba Posted November 24, 2009 Author Posted November 24, 2009 THINK YOU'LL FIND THAT LOADS OF STUFF WAS BOOTED IN THE U.S VIA MONARCH IN THE 70T'S BRI PINCH. the fact that it was pressed in the US for people in the UK doesn't mean that it was distributed in the US
bri pinch Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 the fact that it was pressed in the US for people in the UK doesn't mean that it was distributed in the US you didn't say that tho, bob. you said northern soul wasn't booted in the u.s. BRI PINCH.
George G Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 the fact that it was pressed in the US for people in the UK doesn't mean that it was distributed in the US I've found boots of soul 45s in the US. Probably less than 5, but more than zero. All in person, stores or record shows, not on eBay. A lot can happen to records in 30 years.....
boba Posted November 24, 2009 Author Posted November 24, 2009 you didn't say that tho, bob. you said northern soul wasn't booted in the u.s. BRI PINCH. if you want to quibble over the semantics over my post, that is what I said. the point of my post and what I was writing was that I never had to worry about buying bootlegs until I started buying internationally. When I was selling at the soultrip it was funny, people were inspecting my records to see if they were originals, I'm sure it's a whole different world over there, but my trashed chicago 45s that I was selling were definitely not bootlegs. George G said in 30 years he maybe found 5 bootlegs, I'm sure some bootlegs got here somehow, but it is very very rare. We invented record bootlegging with the doowop market but nobody in the US bootlegged soul in general unless it had some doowop (or maybe motown) interest.
Dave Pinch Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 there are a few different variations of abc/abc paramount but lovers of northern of northern have a couple or 3 to go at and also the same amount for modern /70s lovers but non look like that. my main point is if you spend good money on vinyl you go out of your way to find out what the original looks like dave
Guest carl_p Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 It will probably all get charged back to the seller even though the seller does not accept returns. The buyer should only lose a little return postage.
Guest eddiep Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 As much as we all despise boots and the consiquences that come from them being produced, they are out there and there's nothing we can do about that. Im not defending the seller of this Trends boot but he advertised it with very little information and put it up in auction to which people still responded (and himself by the look of the bidding history!) resulting in it reaching a ridiculous price. In the times we live in where you can buy almost anything on fleaBay we all have the choice whether to purchase or not. Surely it's a buyer's responsibility to make sure what their buying / bidding on is exactly what they want? If the person who won the auction wanted to pay that amount then it's up to him or her yeah? And equally if he or she feels they were mislead by the ad then it's up to them to challenge it. (Although there isn't anything in this guys ad to argue with I don't think!) If little or no information is received after asking question's then that to me is a sure sign to avoid. There's no point in paying out for something if it's dubious unless you've got money to burn and your not bothered of course. fleaBay does nothing to stop people selling boots at all and in all honesty why would they....It means they will still get their grubby hands on their cut of the money. As far as their concerned, that's what the game is all about, right? At the end of the day the right's and wrong's of whether this boot being sold and reached a stupid price on ebay doesn't come into it (that's capitalsm and the world we live in). It's whether you as a buyer / collector would be prepared to purchase it and if so for how much. Our choice! As my old man used to say, "Knowledge is power". Well, don't know so much about power thing but doing some homework first definately helps in the world of Northern Soul I think ! Just my point of view btw. ATB Eddie (Blimey! Didn't realise how much I got on me soap box until I read this through! Lol.)

Guest boppinblues Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 the seller is a Soul-source member and he sells r&b and soul regularly on here, it's not the first time I've been watching his ebay auctions...he's registered on SS as "soulgirl85".
