Tolbert Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 If Bob & Gav want me to do the 'LP only' set again at Yarmouth in April it will be the 4th year on the run! And as usual, The LP-only set is surely one of the highlights for me to come over to Soul Essence (2010 will be the fourth time in a row, can't wait...)

Guest matty Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 THE NEW SOUNDS L.P-ON TURBO OR A BIT CHEAPER ON P-VINE..TWO BLINDING TRACKS..DONT TAKE YOUR LOVE AND SWEET MEMORIES
Soul-slider Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Marvin & Tammi - 'This Poor Heart Of Mine' (from 'Easy')... ...is this an alternate title of 'Only Your Love Can Save Me' (Marvelettes)? Also, from the same album 'More, More, More'.
Sjclement Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Some LP only tracks from me: FREDA PAYNE: On Easy Street (How Do You Say I Don't Love You Anymore) BOBBY BLAND: Sweet Lips Of Joy (A Touch Of The Blues) THE TOYS: Deserted (Lovers Concerto) TOMMY NAVARRO: I'm Comin' On Back (Twist Around The Town) TEMPESTS: Just about every track on Would You Believe TYRONE THOMAS: Baby Can't You See (alternate take) (Free Angela) DEON JACKSON: I'm Telling You (Love Makes The World Go Round) Plus, let's not forget those excellent Motown compilations on Music For Pleasure / Sounds Superb, each one of which contains at least one unissued track or cover version! Theres an abundance of UK copies of this album around.... unfortunately this track is not on them you'll have to make do with Sad September which will be apt if thats the month you purchased it in...... Its a cruel world....... I'll get my coat
Guest bazabod_downunder Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Always liked this one unfortunately only format it's ever been available on is CD, Carol Fran : The Complete Calla, Port & Roulette Recordings, pity really as I'd love to hear this played out. KTF Baz CAROL FRAN ROLL WITH THE PUNCHES U/R ? - Hi all I thought that I'd open this up to share LP only tracks that you may be aware of. Obviously because of the nature of LP's they don't tend to get as many spins. Best Mick
Guest Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Miriam Makeba 7ts lp is rare enough for the list.
Guest isis Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 (edited) Two album tracks from the Marvelettes "I Know Better" from "The Marvelettes" and the sublime "Someway Somehow" from "Sophisticated Soul". Jimmy James & The Vagabonds "Aint No Big Thing" from "The New Religion" best version IMHO. Bill Withers "Harlem" from "Just As I Am" (I'm not counting that '89 remix...yuck) Edited November 28, 2009 by isis
Mick Sway Posted December 1, 2009 Author Posted December 1, 2009 Hi Folks Chosen Few - Taking all the love i can get - Maple 1972 I believe that this rare Canadian LP was made available on CD some years ago, however this is cut from a C60 that my old pal Ray Saunders sent me about 10 years ago. This album is captivating on both sides and littered with good n.soul and funk tracks. There's also an unrelated reggae group with the same name. Mick Sway Posted December 4, 2009 Author Posted December 4, 2009 Hi all Motown are of course well represented with a number of LP only tracks under this thread. 24 Hours is a classic - I also note that someone else has posted refos of Edwins War & Peace tracks, including the underrated "she should have been home" Earlier in this thread The Isley's My Love is your Love was also highlighted. Does anyone know who was responsible for breaking this tune? The LP Tamla Motown presents The Isley Brothers on MFP,is not rare as such, but was a bit of a surprise at the time of release (from memory about 1971) since it included a number of quality previously unreleased tracks. These included My Love, Born to love you and sad souvenirs. Some of these have not received the credit that they deserved, for instance Born to Love You was covered by a number of motown groups including the Temps, however the Isley's is in my view the best version. An alternative mix of My Love was also made available as a bonus track on a 2002 CD release of the This Old Heart of Mine LP. For some strange reason in the early 1970'S EMI put out a number of previously unreleased Motown tracks on their budget Sounds Superb and MFP labels. These included Kiki Dee's excellent version of "I'll try something new" , the Isley's and Jimmy Ruffins' "born to be bad" . There was also a great stereo version of Mary Wells greatest hits which included a first rate version of "when I'm gone" . If anyone picks this up I'd be interested to know the history of that particular version , in particular where else it was released. Any feedback on these comments would be appreciated. Up until now there have been some great suggestions and tracks posted under this thread. Thanks Mick

Thanks Mick Mick, Mary Wells' 'When I'm Gone' was originally on her 'Vintage Stock' L.P (US Motown 653), although I'm not sure if my copy is stereo, don't think it is as it doesn't say so I'm presuming it's mono. Guest Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Isley Brothers - Your Love Is My Love (Forever) ISLEY BROTHERS - MY LOVE IS YOUR LOVE - MFP LP - KTF Baz Dont know how anybody could forget about this, got to be in the top 5 the best Motown LP only tracks ever! Truly majestic and a reminder of just where the big boss of this music resides. Couple of other nice Album tracks... JIMMY RUFFIN'S version of 'Family Affair' on his 1974 Polydor Album, great dancer, only ever heard it played once at a do by Martin from Bournemouth who does a set usually specialising in LP tracks. Superb. MARVIN GAYE AND KIM WESTON, from IT TAKES TWO album, 'Heaven Must have sent you I know', gorgeous midtempo Motown, wish this had made it onto 45.

Guest Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 (edited) got this on an lp somewhere up stairs, no doubt some one will enlighten us to which one. kev MIRACLES - BABY CHANGES LIKE THE WEATHER LP - Oh mate, brilliant shout, this is Northern Soul at it's absolute finest! On the 'Going to a go-go' album. When you hear tracks like this, it brings home how far ahead Motown really is, despite all it's critcs. I just love the understated backing 'doo-doos' which come in just before the end and then the fade on a note very few singers could even attempt but which Smokey cruises and does not even highlight! Imagine the worth of this if it's an unknown artist's only 45, on a backstreet label with only a handful of copies in circulation. Premier League N/S. Edited December 5, 2009 by chorleysoul

Mick Sway Posted December 6, 2009 Author Posted December 6, 2009 (edited) RE : New Sounds Turbo LP Lovely crossover sounds, nearly bought a copy from Kin Bee on P.Vine , but skipped because it was a pricey for my pocket. Nice one! Mick P.S. Thanks to Doog for his input on the "My love is your love^track. During the early 80T's I pestered Dave Evison to play it on his Signal show, Which he did eventually but without any reaction. I spotted today that both versions are on the new Isley's Motown CD anthology, along with most of the other then previously unreleased 70's MFP and regal Starline material. Another top tune on this album is 'tell me your name', think it only came out on lp only, I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong . Here you go Matty, check my last played tune. This track also got a UK release on a Tamla Motown Various Artists LP "Motown Memories vol 2) in 1968, with sleeve notes by Mike Raven. My copy is mono, but there may possibly have been stereo ones around? The same LP also contains Barbara McNair's "Your gonna love my baby" and R Dean Taylor's "Ghost..." amongst others
