Obviously because of the nature of LP's they don't tend to get as many spins. Best Mick

Geeselad Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 John Manship sold it on auction a couple of years ago. I think Mick Holdsworth from Wolvo paid about nine hundred for it. A true rarest of the rare as far as 33's go. Tony Ellis from London has a copy, used to play it at Yate. Alongside the unisssued Lou Johnson on UK london test press only, Adey C owns it I think.

Liljimmycrank Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 This was such a fantastic thread when done last year. Cant remember how many replies (there were sh*t loads), so well worth another go. LP only tracks get way over looked IMO, and there are some CORKERS out there. What i found really interesting last time was the amount of tracks people thought to be LP only but had a foreign 45 release which people didnt know about. All part of the sharing and learning Loads of good ones mentioned so far like Righteous Brother, Tempests, Clydene Jackson, Rhetta Hughes etc. Two from me: Luther Ingram - Do you think there's a chance James Brown - Why did you take your love away from me (Massive nighter sound) Azza
Steve Plumb Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 This subject comes up fairly regularly on Soul Source and each time new tracks get mentioned, so all power to whoever started the thread as there has been some brill stuff mentioned On a slightly different slant i've recently been playing four LP-Only Northern classics where each take is significantly different to the 45's we're used to- Alice Clark - You hit me (late 60's/early 70's version) - GWP LP Frank Dell - He broke your game wide open (late 60's/early 70's version) - Guinness LP Dee Dee Sharp - What kind of lady (with extra verse and backing vocals) - Gamble LP Sam Dees - Lonely for you baby (with count-in and femme backing vocals) - Jap LP Cheers Steve
Guest Brett F Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Was the Bobby Story Album reissued , does any one know ? NO, its actually Bobby Patterson

It's on the 'I Can't Stand Myself When You Touch Me' (King) album. Pure 1960's Northern Stormer all the way....didn't realise it was getting plays!!!!
Guest Brett F Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Sandra Wright - I COME RUNNING BACK (Demon LP Uk)
Guest Brett F Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 (edited) ALSO SANDRA WRIGHT - MIDNIGHT AFFAIR- (ALT TAKE) DEMON LP UK. although did get a legit 7" German release donkeys years later.but that doesnt count for me the only way to play it out is off the original (un-released ! LP)...love the confusion and esoteric world of rare soul vinyl collecting. Edited November 27, 2009 by Brett F
Guest Brett F Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 My personal choice for one of the greatest ever LP only soul dancers: Jerry Butler "Stop Stepping On My Dreams". Did actually appear on a US promotional only Mercury 6 track 7" promo EP but sadly in much abbreviated form !!! I have both these, the promo ep is a great collectors piece, has yours the pic sleeve etc ?

Steve Plumb Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Hope to hear your Lp track only set at Essence again in April, maybe we can get the better of Bully this time Then again Hiya Binsy If Bob & Gav want me to do the 'LP only' set again at Yarmouth in April it will be the 4th year on the run! And as usual, I'll make sure that there will be no tracks played from previous years either! Pressure will be on again as at midnight folks have to dance to 'em too! Although I'll have to watch out for the Soul detective's as I got caught out last year with a couple tracks that got released on Outer Mongolian 45's that I wasn't aware of And to round it off, it will be me and you and Bully in the car park at 6.30 a.m. Cheers Steve
