Mick Sway Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 Hi all I thought that I'd open this up to share LP only tracks that you may be aware of. Obviously because of the nature of LP's they don't tend to get as many spins. Best Mick

Greety Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 John Manship sold it on auction a couple of years ago. I think Mick Holdsworth from Wolvo paid about nine hundred for it. A true rarest of the rare as far as 33's go. Tony Ellis from London has a copy, used to play it at Yate.

Mark Bicknell Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 (edited) The Metros - Sweetest One RCA Victor album holds of course their brilliant version of 'I'll Never Forget You' but the hidden gem of the album is 'I'm With You All The Way' certainly an album only track this punchy Pied Piper production has yet to have it's day on the scene, awesome track that simply has it all. Neil Rushton Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 John Manship sold it on auction a couple of years ago. I think Mick Holdsworth from Wolvo paid about nine hundred for it. A true rarest of the rare as far as 33's go. Tony Ellis from London has a copy, used to play it at Yate. Richard Searling talks in the book NORTHERN SOUL STORIES about how he put his copy of the Len Barry LP on top of his car after a gig in Manchester in the seventies and drove away - result one missing Len Barry LP! I think the one John sold to Mick was a test pressing on white blank label or orig acetate? Pete Lyster has a labelled copy (no sleeve ever done I think) in superb nick and has lent it for a (lovely) label scan for the book to go with Richard's story. In the book Richard also talks about another occasion when he reversed his car over his record box (!!!!!) and trashed a copy of the very rare single containing the instrumental version of "What About The Music" - Billy Harner. The book also contains the story of how the Billy Harner instrumental seven came to be made by mistake - and how (ouch!) the stock was immediately sent back to the record label to be destroyed with a quote from the guy who packed the records up to send back. The book has been delayed as I decided at last minute to change and add to it, but will be available in 2 weeks.Info on www.soulvation.biz Thanks, Neil

phillyDaveG Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 Well Mick, I don't like to state the blindingly obvious, but their are tens of thousands of them. No one would start a thread to name 7" tracks you are aware of would they? Why is it that so many soul fans seem to think that great LP tracks are in any way unusual? I know many of you come from a 45 based scene, but really, I suppose we are going to have the "Any good CD tracks thread" next.

Mick Sway Posted November 22, 2009 Author Posted November 22, 2009 Hi everyone Some great suggestions there. I guess I meant LP only rather than rare. I agree with Tommy do try to include a sound clip, if possible. The Leon Cook is a great crossover tune, which I've never heard of - is this a Carabean tune? Also Album title and label if possible. Thanks for contributing & keep it up. Mick Attachement is ; Bruce Cloud, Walk in my shoes, California Soul, Capitol US LP artist - Track 12_0228203916.mp3 artist - Track 12_0228203916.mp3

Sunnysoul Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 My personal choice for one of the greatest ever LP only soul dancers: Jerry Butler "Stop Stepping On My Dreams". Did actually appear on a US promotional only Mercury 6 track 7" promo EP but sadly in much abbreviated form !!!
