I would like to go to Lifeline, because i think i would really enjoy the music, but i just don't think i would be very welcome (because of the way i dress), the oldies crowd are very friendly & except folk for who they are ..................Here is a bit of an example, we went to another night that was not just oldies & a couple of Psychobilly's came in, i got talking to them, they told me that they really liked 60's Soul music, they were a really nice couple, but folk were coming up to me & saying, "What are they doing in here" & "look at them!"..................so what's that all about!.........................The only thing i can't stand is the snobbery people should be excepted, no matter what they wear The oldies crowd are always getting digs from certain folk on here.............i put some photo's on the gallery a few weeks back & some nasty woman had to make a rude comment , & just because folk dress the way they do, & im quite sure i am included in this, because i don't dress conventional (this is not directed at you Peggy). As for the dancing....................i love all kinds of dancing, from all era's i like to do Ballroom/Latin/Lindy comp, so i just love to watch fantastic dancers, & the places i go to, i do see some fabulous dancers who are passionate about the music Debbie x on the subject of friendly crowds.........they are most friendly at places like lifeline....of that you can be sure. In my experience of oldies crowds (obviously not all ) they have been very hostile when a dj plays a few 60's things that they don,t know....they've been up on stage demanding "play something we know "...."play some oldies big oldies". I,ve seen this happen on quite a few occasions.......upfront places play a fair amount of oldies usually underplayed gems ect which the punters accept and enjoy quite happily.....see ya at lifeline...peggy

About St Ives; I had planned to go but since discovering that its not an all nighter and that its £8.50 (& that's with the discount from the Cambridge Soul Collective) for just 6 hours (8pm to 2am) I've decided to go to Lifeline in Wolverhampton instead (£10 for 10 hours!). Youth club,parka coat, white skinners,flemings heavy weights, ox blood dr martens, higher the eyes on the boot the better, red braces, red socks. Wigan days, barathea blazer, va va badge ( helped me get a job), parallels ,high waisted trousers. Mid eighties, burgundy brogues,(loakes). Shop wise, clobber in wigan, two tone trousers( green/red), patterned pear drop shirts.Ormskirk market for patterned shirts. I also had a v neck pullover bought for me, black, white lettering, northern soul.(mid - seventies).

The Animal Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 Had trousers made to measure at a tailors in the Corn Exchange in Leeds. Not sure of his name now but he was on the old balcony area. First pair were grey cord high-waisters with about 20 pockets. Loved them so much I cut the waist band down when high waist was going out of fashion. Had at least 5 other pairs made by him including 40" bags in black and moving on to pegs in two tone. Great bloke, just said "get material you want from the market and I'll make whatever you like." I'd be interested to know if anyone else on SS went to him as he seemed to know all about the fashion of the soul scene mid-late 70's.

Genuine Skinners were paralell, even though they were quite wide. If worn properly, they looked good. Unfortuantely, none of those divs are wearing them properly. They also look as if they haven't been washed for a while.

(heard it was a northern working class thing), feather hair,red socks,badges (patches of northern soul clubs/northern scooter clubs),sheepskins and long leather jackets.Football scarves were popular. the picture outside blackpool mecca my bro (phil morgan ) is the one sitting on the steps think the dj is tony jebb x
