Guest Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 (edited) Just an idea, thought it might be interesting to see what people play when they first bounce out of bed and fancy a Soul fix. Only 45s actually lifted from the shelves qualify, we're talking about excercise and healthy living here, not just leaning over and flicking CD switch! To kick off, my first 3 for Thursday November 12th 2009 were: !. What a lovely way (to tell me you loved me) JACKIE WILSON - Brunswick US - Gorgeous production, sublime vocals, Soul perfection. 2. If my heart could tell a story - EDWIN STARR - US Gordy - Edwin's great weepie in my book. Never tire of this common but utterly fantastic record. 3. You're just the kind of guy - KIM WESTON - MGM US As Sean Hampsey recently pointed out, the third one really shows what a talent Motown lost when Mickey Stevenson departed with his heavenly voiced Mrs. Brilliant production and those suspended chorus bridges have blown me away for years! Ok, who's next? Edited November 12, 2009 by chorleysoul

Swifty Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Didn't get my fix until I popped home at lunchtime. So whilst having my ham butty & Coffee I popped the following 3 on the deck 1. Jackie Day - Before it's too Late - Modern (Arrived in the post this morning) 2. Ron Keith & Ladies - Cant Live without you - A&M (Unusual sound but love it to bits) 3. Little Helen - Can't get enough - Soultown (Cracking bit of cross over IMHO) Cheers Swifty

Guest Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 4.17 PM. SUNDAY 15TH NOVEMBER 2009 The Mrs is in bed, its saturday night and I can't sleep for toffee, so just got back up. Old habits die hard! Just slammed on these 3 crackers (thru the headphones, loud as hell to cover my tinitus, closed my eyes and it felt like I was at a niter for a brief spell! ). 1. Keep on loving me - FRANCES NERO - US SOUL - One of the records that hooked me on Northern Soul in 1974/75. Undescribable emotional brilliance! 2. You forgot how to love - PATTI LABELLE AND THE BLUEBELLES - US ATLANTIC - Just a permanent freak for girly gems like this. Lovely stuff! 3. Everythings wrong - CHUBBY CHECKER - UK CAMEO PARKWAY - Nice, lilting old school Northern, under rated record, superb production qualities.
Guest Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 (edited) Can't believe I got up at quarter past four and posted my first 3 of the day! (see last post) Might have been the Police Helicopter circling 200 ft above the building that had something to do with it though! Ok, what were the first 3 that did it for you on this soulful Sunday morning/afternoon? Edited November 15, 2009 by chorleysoul
